Network equipment theft causes Vodafone service outages in UK

According to Bloomberg, some Vodafone customers were without voice, data, and text message services after someone stole some of Vodafone's network hardware. Vodafone is working to get its network back up to normal as soon as possible.

Consumer Reports says Verizon's iPhone has same "death grip" issues as AT&T's

Consumer Reports has been one of the most vocal critics of Apple's iPhone 4, due to the external design of its antenna. It was thought that the new version of the device, which runs on Verizon's network, would manage to avoid the death grip issues that plagued AT&T's model, but CR says that is simply not the case. The publication claims that a single misplaced finger can still cause droped calls in weak signal areas, something that does not happen with the other Verizon devices it tested at the same time. CR notes that the Apple "bumper" case does fix the problem.

Google removes Visual VoiceMail from Android market, presumably over payment issues

Google has removed the popular Visual VoiceMail application by PhoneFusion from the Android Market, stating that the app violates the Market's terms. PhoneFusion believes it is being singed out do to payment method issues.

Verizon expecting LTE 4G devices from Apple, looking to future with Nokia

The Wall Street Journal is reporting comments from Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Mead that indicate that Apple will produce LTE 4G capable products for Verizon in the future and that Verizon is now looking to work with Nokia due to Nokia's recently announced deal with Microsoft.

Android Gingerbread coming to HTC Desire series and Incredible S in Q2

According to SlashGear, HTC has announced that there will be Android Gingerbread firmware updates coming for the HTC Desire HD, Desire Z, Desire, and Incredible S. The company expects Gingerbread to hit those devices during the second quarter of this year.

T-Mobile shows subscriber loss in Q4 2010 report

Today T-Mobile reported its Q4 2010 earnings. The #4 U.S. carrier claimed that it lost 318,000 contract customers during the quarter, though revenues were up slightly year-over-year.

Motorola XOOM LTE update takes 8 days; no contract change required

Verizon Wireless has posted some details about its free LTE upgrade program for the Motorola XOOM tablet that it recently started offering. The upgrade process will take about 8 days, but will not require any change in data plans to take advantage of the 4G speeds.

Google Search on Android and iPhone updated with new filters

Google has updated its Google Search functionality on the web browser for iOS and Android devices. Users can now search for businesses that are currently open. For example, if you're looking for sushi at 10pm, you can filter the search to only show nearby locations that are currently open. Similarly, you can now filter by star ratings, and by distance from your current location. To try it yourself, head over to www.google.com on your mobile browser and tap on "Places" at the top of the page. Google says these features are also now available in Google Maps on Android.

PayPal Mobile for iPhone updated to v3.2

PayPal recently announced a new update, v3.2, for its iPhone application. PayPal Mobile 3.2 now includes a new FundRazr function, which allows users the ability to create and manage campaigns to raise money for their favorite causes or charities. The new function is tightly integrated with Facebook so family and friends can easily make contributions or post comments. The new update also brings a new icon interface with personal customization features. The updated app is available now in Apple's iTunes.

Samsung Galaxy S II Gingerbread smartphone lands on March 31 in the UK

Samsung's new smartphone, the Galaxy S II, is expected to hit store shelves starting on March 31 and is now available for pre-order on Play.com. The Galaxy S II features a 4.3-in Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen display, an 8MP camera with 1080p HD video recording and playback, a 1GHz dual-core processor, and runs Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. HTC Incredible S smartphone now on sale in the UK

One of HTC's latest Android smartphones, the Incredible S, is now being offered by Mobiles.co.uk, part of Carphone Warehouse, in the UK. The Incredible S features a 4-inch WVGA Super LCD display, an 8MP camera capable of recording 720p HD videos, and a forward facing 1.3MP camera for video chats. It's powered by a new 1GHz Qualcomm 8255 processor and runs Android 2.2 Froyo out of the box, but HTC says it will update it to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
