Nokia reveals three new Symbian^3 smartphones during Nokia World

During Nokia World in London, today, Nokia announced three new smartphones running the Symbian^3 operating system. The devices include the Nokia E7, a QWERTY device targeted at business users, the C7, a touchscreen phone with a 3.5-inch AMOLED display, and the C6-01, a more compact touchscreen phone with a 3.2-inch AMOLED display and HD video recording capabilities. All of the devices are expected to launch during the fourth quarter of this year.

T-Mobile UK is now offering the Samsung Galaxy Apollo smartphone, an affordable Android 2.1 handset that features a large and colorful 3.2-inch WVGA touchscreen display, a 3 megapixel camera/camcorder with autofocus, 3G HSDPA/WiFi/Bluetooth connectivity, an FM radio, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The handset runs on a 1500mAh battery that provides up to 8.5 hours of talk time or 600 hours of standby time. The Galaxy Apollo is available now for free with service agreements starting at 20 GBP per month.

European Commission to support EU mobile broadband plan

The European Commission is expected to back a new plan that would require television broadcasters to free up the 800MHz block of frequency spectrum so that wireless operators could purchase it. The move is part of an effort to provide all of the European Union with mobile broadband.

Wal-Mart Family Mobile wireless plans introduced

Today Wal-Mart will begin rolling out its own cell phone plans, branded Wal-Mart Family Mobile. The service runs on T-Mobile's cellular network, according to the AP. The plans, set to debut next week, will cost $45 for unlimited calling and texting. It will cost $25 to add additional lines to a plan. Wal-Mart also sells Straight Talk plans, which run on Verizon Wireless' network.

GM trialing OnStar Facebook and texting functionality

General Motors has begun testing new functions for its OnStar communication, security, and diagnostics system, according to Reuters. The latest tests involve allowing drivers to hear their incoming text messages, listen to recent Facebook news feed updates, and even reply to text messages using one of four default responses. There's no word on when this functionality could hit end-user systems, if at all.

Indicted Apple employee to keep company secrets mum

Paul Devine, the Apple global supply manager who was charged in August for taking as much as $1 million in kickbacks and for money laundering, agreed to keep Apple secrets from the public during his investigation. According to Bloomberg, Devine agreed to a court order "protecting Apple's trade secrets in any document exchange during pretrial negotiations." The protective order was filed by the U.S. Attorney's Office in San Francisco and noted that the investigation could reveal Apple information that "is intended to be kept secret and is trade secret information belonging to Apple." Devine has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Nokia updates Ovi Suite

Today Anu Koskinen, a member of Nokia's Ovi Suite team, announced that a new version of the Nokia Ovi Suite has been released. The latest version improves performance and stability, and also supports contact syncing with Thunderbird 3.1 as well as improved video playback. Nokia also fixed some issues that occurred while downloading maps to a phone, and some Outlook 2010 bugs. The software also supports a larger number of Nokia handsets. Samsung Apps now offered to 9 new countries

Today Samsung announced that its Samsung Apps store, which launched a year ago today, is now available in nine new countries. Samsung Apps is launching in Costa Rica, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Iceland, Nicaragua, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, and Sudan. Samsung Apps is now available in 109 markets. Nokia also announced that there have been 14 million downloads on bada phones to date.
