Motorola reveals MILESTONE 2 Android 2.2 smartphone

Today Motorola unveiled its MILESTONE 2 smartphone, which is the non-U.S. version of the Motorola DROID for Verizon Wireless. The new MILESTONE 2 works on UMTS and GSM networks, but otherwise offers the same basic design and features, including a full QWERTY keyboard and WVGA touchscreen display.

SocialScope hints at iPhone, Android expansion

Social networking application developer SocialScope, who's self-named application has been only available in beta form for BlackBerry users, has sent out an email hinting that it will soon offer its service to both iPhone and Android users. Personally, I am a huge fan of SocialScope and was very happy to read that it has decided to open up its app to include other mobile platforms like Android and Apple's iPhone. The company states, "So if you've switched phones hang on to your account and we'll let you know when they are ready to test". SocialScope combines Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and FourSquare into one application for easy access on-the-go.

T-Mobile USA expands HSPA+ to nine new markets, announces faster speeds for 2011

Today T-Mobile USA announced that it has expanded its HSPA+ footprint to nine new markets, including Boston, MA, Erie, PA, Fresno, Palm Springs, and San Diego, CA, Miami, FL, Richmond, VA, Spokane, WA, and Topeka, KS. T-Mobile now covers a total of 100 million Americans in over 55 markets with its HSPA+ network. The carrier plans to offer faster speeds (42Mbps theoretical), to over 200 million people, by 2011.

Palm Pixi Plus for Verizon Wireless receives webOS 1.4.5 update

Verizon Palm Pixi Plus owners can now get the latest and greatest webOS update, version 1.4.5, over-the-air. The new software update for the Pixi Plus is expected to offer a better 3D gaming experience via PDK support, improved web text input, and other bug fixes. Motorola: DROID X unofficial Android 2.2 update won't be compatible with official update in September

On the Motorola support forums, a Motorola rep named Matt posted a warning for Motorola DROID X users tempted to upgrade to a leaked, unofficial version of Android 2.2 Froyo. His warning said, "Do NOT load the leaked 2.2 upgrade that has been floating around on the [internet]. There is currently no upgrade path from that load to the official 2.2 load that will be released by early September. Unless you have some plan to flash your phone back to the current official load, you could be stuck on the leaked version."

AT&T HTC Tilt2 smartphone update available

HTC is now offering an updated version of its software for AT&T Tilt2 users. The new update offers fixes for Caller ID inconsistencies, SMS freezes, and inaccurate SMS/MMS counts as well as adding HTC's Sense user interface and the ability to format a microSD card directly on the Tilt2. Additionally, the new ROM version 2.10.501.4 will add baked-in instant messaging, an AT&T WiFi client, a Twitter application, and Vlingo. The new update is available now for free from HTC.

ViewSonic introduces ViewPad 7 Android smartphone tablet

ViewSonic let the wraps off of its 7-inch Android 2.2 Froyo-powered smartphone-tablet today, the ViewPad 7. The device sports 3G connectivity, WiFi, aGPS, a front-facing camera for video-chat, and more. It will be on the show floor at IFA this week, in Germany, which we'll be attending.

Palm has announced an update to its Facebook application for webOS device users, which include the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus. The application includes support for photo tagging, landscape mode, filtered news feeds, and a new one-click option to view comments. The Facebook app integrates into Palm's webOS and Synergy platform and can be downloaded for free.

AutoCAD support landing on iPhone, iPad

Autodesk, owner of the AudoCAD engineering software, has said that it will offer free versions of its software for the iPhone and iPad for viewing, sharing, and editing AutoCAD files. Autodesk also announced that its AutoCAD software is now available for OS X, after 18 years of discontinuing support for Apple's operating system.

Samsung SCH-r631 Messager Touch touchscreen phone now available on Cricket

Today Cricket Wireless announced its second touchscreen phone of the year, the Samsung SCH-r631 Messager Touch. The Messager Touch, originally launched on U.S. Cellular, has a special Myhomescreen Touch app that lets you place links to your favorite apps and web pages on the homescreen. The device has a 2.6-inch touchscreen display, a sliding QWERTY keyboard, and a 2 megapixel camera. It will be available for $159.99 in black or white.

Sony Ericsson A8i Android powered OPhone smartphone hitting China Mobile

Today Sony Ericsson and China Mobile announced the A8i, an Android powered smartphone that uses China Mobile's custom OPhone 2.0 version of the Android operating system. The phone runs on China Mobile's TD-SCDMA 3G network.
