GSMA hosting Macworld Mobile during 2011 Mobile World Congress tradeshow

The GSMA has announced that it will feature Macworld Mobile during the Mobile World Congress tradeshow in Barcelona. "At Mobile World Congress, we will help international iOS developers to strengthen their skills, as well as facilitate connection with other developers and the worldwide audience of mobile decision makers who attend," the chief executive officer of IDG World Expo, Mary Dolaher, said. Macworld is a popular U.S. tradeshow for Apple developers and accessory makers, and Macworld mobile will provide a global meeting place for those working with Apple's mobile products. We'll be attending Mobile World Congress, which will occur between February 14th and 11th of 2011.

Samsung Fascinate Galaxy S Android smartphone for Verizon available tomorrow

Today Verizon Wireless announced that its own version of the Samsung Galaxy S Android-powered smartphone, the Samsung Fascinate, will be available tomorrow on Verizon's website and will be available in Verizon stores on Thursday, September 9. The Fascinate features a 4-inch {Super AMOLED} touchscreen display, a 1GHz Samsung processor, and a 5 megapixel camera that can also record 720p HD videos. The Fascinate will be available for $199.99 with contract, after a $100 mail-in rebate that comes in the form of a debit card.

LG: dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 Optimus smartphones launching in Q4

LG has announced that it will introduce multiple smartphones that will be powered by NVIDIA's dual-core Tegra 2 processor. The Tegra 2 piocessor will offer 2x faster web browsing, a 5x better gaming experience, and 1080p HD video playback. LG will use the processors in its Optimus series of devices, one of which we had a glimpse of during the IFA tradeshow in Berlin last week.

Nokia expected to debut E7 smartphone at Nokia World

According to Reuters, Nokia, the world's largest cellphone manufacturer, is expected to debut new smartphones at its London based media and industry event, Nokia World. Nokia is expected to take the wraps off of the E7, a new flagship device for the company, as well as a new N8 variant that expected run on the Symbian^3 operating system. Sources have also indicated that there will be a few other smartphones announced at the event. The London show starts on September 14.

Palm webOS 2.0 to feature virtual keyboard

An anonymous tip sent to PreCentral.net pointed out the presense of a "VirtualKeyboard" section in a file found in the webOS 2.0 early release software development kits provided to some developers. Palm had initially reacted to the leak by closing the SDK early access application process, but has since re-opened it. A virtual keyboard is seen as a key piece of the webOS puzzle if it is to move onto different form factors, such as tablets. Palm has made no official mention of virtual keyboards so far.

LG introduces Optimus 7 brand for Windows Phone 7 smartphones

By way of an earlier press release touting LG's new DLNA media sharing technology, LG has officially made public the name of its upcoming brand of Windows Phone 7 smartphones: LG Optimus 7. The Optimus brand is already in use with the company's Android powered smartphones. LG says that Optimus 7 devices will be available early in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Nokia N8 to ship on September 30

According to Finish newspaper Kauppalehti.fi,Tapani Kaskinen, of Nokia's corporate communications group, said that "advanced orders" of the new Nokia N8 flagship smartphone will begin shipping on September 30. This statement is in line with the "end of September" time frame promised by the Nokia USA website, which has the device available for pre-order.
