Samsung plans several Windows Phone 7 devices this year Posted: 30 Sep 2010 05:12 AM PDT Samsung's intention to create Windows Phone 7 devices hasn't been much of a secret since the FCC approved the Cetus, but the manufacturer has officially announced its plans to release several Windows Phone 7 devices this year. "The addition of Windows Phone 7 devices to Samsung's smartphone portfolio is a significant milestone. Samsung's new Windows Phone 7 based smartphones will play a key role in reinforcing Samsung's leadership in the smartphone market and commitment to providing a range of devices across a variety of platforms," Simon Stanford, head of Samsung mobile for the U.K. and Ireland, said. Verizon debuts phone trade-in program Posted: 30 Sep 2010 05:03 AM PDT Verizon has launched a new phone trade-in program that allows the public to trade in any used devices, regardless of wireless carrier or model. Verizon will value the device and provide a gift card based on its worth. Verizon asks you to enter in your model number, and answer if it can still make calls, if the display works, and if the display is cracked. Nokia N8 smartphone begins shipping to customers Posted: 30 Sep 2010 04:54 AM PDT Today Nokia announced that it is beginning to ship the N8, a Symbian^3 powered smartphone. Customers that preordered will get the phones first. If you want to buy the phone in a retail store, Nokia said that local Nokia suppliers should be able to tell you when they are getting their shipments. French police bust SIM card hackers Posted: 29 Sep 2010 12:39 PM PDT French police have busted a crime ring that was responsible for selling, and hacking, SIM card codes. The group made as much as $675,000 per month selling the codes, and were able to place unauthorized phone calls and even steal information from the hacked SIM cards. Read the full story here. |
AT&T to offer BlackBerry Curve 3G, Pearl 3G smartphones Posted: 29 Sep 2010 10:25 AM PDT Today AT&T announced that it will soon offer the BlackBerry Curve 3G and the BlackBerry Pearl 3G. The BlackBerry Curve 3G is the first 3G capable Curve device on AT&T. AT&T says that the Curve 3G is BlackBerry 6 ready, which means it will launch with the older BlackBerry 5 operating system, but will be upgraded in the coming months. The Pearl 3G offers 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and a 2MP camera, among other features. The Curve 3G will launch in time for the holidays priced at $99.99 with a new contract. 100,000 iPhone 4 units sold by China Unicom in 4 days Posted: 29 Sep 2010 09:53 AM PDT Last Saturday China Unicom began selling the iPhone 4 in China and was greeted by crowds eager to purchase the phone. Since then, the carrier has sold 100,000 of the smartphones, essentially selling its entire stock of the device. Google Gmail "Conversation View" to be optional Posted: 29 Sep 2010 09:45 AM PDT Today Google said that it plans to implement a new update that will allow users to make Gmail's "Conversation View" feature optional. Conversation View provides a long, single thread of replies to the initial email, and there has been requests for an option to disable it. Conversation View is available on most Gmail mobile clients, too, although it's unclear if the option to turn it off will apply to mobile versions of Gmail as well. MetroPCS offers the Samsung SCH-r900 Craft, which supports the new 4G network, and LTE plans start at $55 per month.
