Is text messaging on the decline? It is if you believe Citigroup's analysts. The company noted a drop in text messaging for Christmas and New Year's Eve in Europe, which is says signifies a shift to other forms of messaging, such as social networking websites.

Samsung to merge bada with Intel's Tizen

A Samsung executive has been quoted as saying that his company plans to merge its own bada smartphone operating system with Intel's Tizen Project, which is based on the remnants of the the MeeGo OS that Intel developed with Nokia.

Advisory group finds "no practical" solutions to LightSquared's GPS interference issues

Tasked with finding a way for LightSquared to build out its proposed 4G LTE network on spectrum originally granted to it for satellite communications, the government's National Space-Based Positioning Navigation and Timing Committee has concluded that there simply are "no practical solutions or mitigations" that work.

Motorola issues statement regarding ITC preliminary ruling in its favor against Apple

Today Motorola issued a statement on the favorable ruling it received in its International Trade Commission battle against Apple. The administrative law judge in the case found that Motorola did not infringe upon any of the three patents named in Apple's suit. Scott Offer, senior vice president and general counsel of Motorola Mobility, had the following to say: "Motorola Mobility has worked hard over the years to develop technology and build an industry-leading intellectual property portfolio. We are proud to leverage this broad and deep portfolio to create differentiated innovations that enhance the user experience."
