RIM to demo BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 at CES next week

According to an event invite that was distributed to press this afternoon, RIM plans on demoing version 2.0 of its BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet OS at the Consumer Electronics Show next week. RIM has promised that the updated platform, which should include native email and contacts apps as well as compatibility with Android apps, will arrive in February. It was reported earlier today that the Mobile World Congress event in late February will be the first time that anyone gets to see the new BlackBerry 10 smartphone platform, which is expected to borrow heavily from the new PlayBook operating system.

U.S. Cellular to launch LTE tablet in March, smartphone in April

According to a tweet from its official Twitter account, U.S. Cellular plans to launch its first LTE devices this spring, starting with an LTE tablet in March. A smartphone with LTE capabilities is expected to follow in April. The carrier did not say which manufacturer would be producing the devices or how much they will cost. U.S. Cellular had previously stated that it will bring 4G LTE service to Wisconsin, Maine, Iowa, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Texas in early 2012, with further expansion planned throughout the year.

Sprint to offer Google Galaxy Nexus smartphone with LTE 4G

It appears that the LTE-powered Google Galaxy Nexus is headed to Sprint based on an advertisement seen on CNET. Verizon Wireless is currently the only carrier in the U.S. that offers the Google Galaxy Nexus smartphone, but if that advertisement is to believed, it won't be that way for long.

Sprint to deliver LTE service to Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio first

Sprint has revealed that the first markets to get service on its upcoming 4G LTE network will be Atlanta, Georgia and Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, Texas. The carrier says that these markets will see LTE service by mid-2012. Sprint is far behind Verizon Wireless and even AT&T in its deployment of LTE services, but it has said that it expects to complete its network upgrade by the end of 2013, the same time that AT&T and Verizon are expected to be finished with theirs.

RIM to debut BlackBerry 10 at Mobile World Congress

According to a RIM representative speaking to Pocket-lint, the company intends to use the upcoming Mobile World Congress trade show in February to showcase its new BlackBerry 10 operating system for mobile devices. RIM announced BlackBerry 10 as BBX back in October before changing its name to BlackBerry 10 because of an impending lawsuit.

AT&T brings 4G LTE service to NYC, SF, LA, 8 other markets

AT&T has announced the latest expansion of its 4G LTE network, and it is now offering the high-speed service in 11 new markets, including New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. AT&T's LTE service is now available in 26 markets across the country and covers 74 million residents. The carrier says that its deployment of the 4G LTE network will be "largely complete" by the end of 2013. The new markets with 4G LTE service are New York City metro area, Austin, Chapel Hill, Los Angeles, Oakland, Orlando, Phoenix, Raleigh, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose.

Samsung has already released white versions of the Galaxy S II smartphone for T-Mobile and AT&T, and now Sprint's Epic 4G Touch variant is getting in on the fun. The Frost White version of the Epic 4G Touch features the same specs as the black model released back in September, including the 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, dual-core 1.2GHz Samsung Exynos processor, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Samsung's TouchWiz 4.0 interface. The white model will be available from Sprint on January 8, 2012 for $199.99 with a new two-year contract.

Acer has announced availability and pricing details for its upcoming ICONIA TAB A200 tablet. The 10.1-inch slate will hit shelves on January 15 and will cost a rather low $329.99. That sum will get you an Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet powered by a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and 1GB of RAM. The 10.1-inch display features the familiar 1280 x 800 pixels of resolution, and there is a 2 megapixel front camera, but no rear camera. Acer says that an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will arrive in mid-February, about a month after the tablet goes on sale.

Google Translate for iOS updated with iPad support

Google has released an update for its Translate app for the iOS platform that brings support for the larger display of the Apple iPad.
