ASUS Transformer Pad TF300 update brings Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to the UK

British owners of the Transformer Pad TF300 can upgrade their tablet to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean beginning today. The firmware update adds new Jelly Bean features like enhanced notifications and the Face Unlock liveness check, as well as improvements to pre-installed apps. ASUS plans to announce more supported devices soon, but Transformer Pad TF300 users can check for the update now by going to Settings > About Tablet > System firmware update > Check update.

Verizon gains FCC approval for spectrum purchase to improve LTE network

Verizon has gained FCC approval to purchase $3.6 billion of spectrum from a group of cable companies known as Spectrum Co. The Justice Department approved the deal last week, so the FCC signing-on gives clearance to complete the sale of frequency licenses from Bright House Networks, Comcast, Cox, and Time Warner Cable. Verizon now has 45 days to finalize the spectrum sale, and the carrier must still meet the conditions set by the FCC, including accelerating its network build-out and roaming agreements with other carriers. CEO Dan Mead said Verizon will "work aggressively" to meet those requirements.

T-Mobile has announced the release of the T-Mobile Concord, a new phone recently added to its portfolio of prepaid devices. The ZTE-manufactured phone is compact and lacks features found in most smartphones, but it is low-cost and is a step above the feature phones typically offered to prepaid customers.

Facebook for Android adds bulk photo uploads, event creation, and emoji messages

Facebook for Android has greatly reduced the amount of time it takes to add a series of photos to the social network. The app now supports bulk uploads, which allows users to upload multiple photos at once. It can also select a set of photos and add tag or location information before adding the images to the Mobile Uploads folder. In addition to easier photo sharing, Facebook has added the ability to post photos and emoji characters into messages, and create events within the app. Users can now create an event and quickly post photos from a gathering without ever needing their desktop.
