Bank of America adds mobile check deposit to Android app

The Bank of America Android app now includes the long-awaited Mobile Check Deposit feature. Announced last week for the iPhone, Mobile Check Deposit can add funds to an account without a customer needing to visit a bank. The app takes photos of the front and back of a check, and then securely sends the images to Bank of America. The deposit is made the following day after verification. The latest update also adds the option to receive alerts as push notifications and the ability to send money to another U.S.-based bank account using a mobile phone or email address. Discover simplifies Google Wallet set-up with Save to Wallet API

A Google Wallet update earlier this month made it possible to link the mobile payment app to credit cards from companies other than MasterCard. Today, Google announced a partnership that makes it easier for customers to add their Discover card to Google Wallet. Discover has implemented the Save to Wallet API for Payment Cards, so users don't need to manually enter card information. Visiting discover.com/googlewallet will automatically authenticate and connect a card to Wallet. Discover customers will then be able to make purchases anywhere that Google Wallet or PayPass is accepted.

Instagram adds Photo Maps and new layouts to mobile apps

Instagram has refreshed its Android and iOS photo-sharing apps by increasing speed and adding a few user interface improvements. Version 3.0 of the app also adds a new feature that showcases geo-tagged photos.

AT&T 4G LTE launches in Waco, TX and Fayetteville, AR

AT&T's 4G LTE network trails the network built by rival Verizon, which launches in 34 additional markets today, but the carrier continues to expand its footprint. AT&T announced today that it now supports 4G LTE in Waco, Texas and the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers area of Arkansas. Following the slew of cities launched in July, today's new areas raise AT&T's total number of LTE markets to 53. AT&T subscribers with LTE-capable phones - such as the HTC One X, Nokia Lumia 900, or the Samsung Galaxy S III - will notice faster speeds and lower latency in the new coverage areas.

Developers unlock bootloader on Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Dunkin' Donuts launches iOS and Android payment apps

Dunkin' Donuts has released mobile apps to make it easy for customers to pay for their coffee and donut habits. In addition to finding the nearest locations and describing menu items, the Dunkin' Donuts apps can pay for a customer's order. Once the user links a debit or credit card to a DD payment card, the app displays a barcode that the cashier scans to accept payment. Users can also send mobile gifts through email, text, or Facebook, so friends can use a similar purchase process.
