Apple iPhone 4 software fix for proximity sensor coming soon Posted: 16 Jul 2010 11:10 AM PDT Steve Jobs, during a press conference today, announced that a software fix is coming for the iPhone 4's proximity sensor. The sensor is used to detect the user's face during a call and to deactivate the touchscreen. Users have complained of the device's touchscreen activating while on calls, which has resulted in dropped calls or placing the caller on hold. Apple: 3 million iPhone 4 units sold since launch Posted: 16 Jul 2010 11:07 AM PDT Since its launch on June 24, Apple has sold more than 3 million iPhone 4 smartphones, according to Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Apple offers free case for iPhone 4, refunds for early bumper purchases Posted: 16 Jul 2010 10:35 AM PDT Today Apple's CEO Steve Jobs discussed some of the Apple iPhone 4 reception issues. Jobs said that the antenna reception was responsible for less than 1 dropped call per 100, and discussed mostly the reporting of signal strength bars rather than actual signal attenuation. However, he did note that Apple will refund anyone who purchased a bumper for the iPhone 4 early, and will provide free cases to anyone who wants them until September 30th. Anyone who is unhappy with the iPhone 4 can return an undamaged unit within 30 days for a full refund without a restocking fee. Read the full story here. |
Google sees 300 percent Android search growth in first half of 2010 Posted: 16 Jul 2010 09:11 AM PDT During Android's second quarter conference call yesterday, Google's senior vice president of product management, Jonathan Rosenberg, said that Google's browser is the most popular Android application, and that Android search grew 300 percent during the first half of 2010. Google's CFO, Patrick Pichette, also added that there are 160,000 Android smartphones activated daily and that there are 70,000 applications in the Android Market for download.
