AT&T's Motorola BACKFLIP receives update for bugs, improved performance Posted: 08 Jul 2010 11:42 AM PDT Today Motorola announced an update for the AT&T Motorola BACKFLIP. After installing the update, users should notice color and clarity improvements in the display, better Bluetooth audio and connectivity, improved battery performance, and an improved connection to AT&T's 3G network, among other changes. Motorola encourages BACKFLIP owners to download the update in order to experience optimal performance. Instructions for installing the two-step update are available on Motorola's website. Google outs Android 2.2 Froyo SDK refresh Posted: 08 Jul 2010 11:17 AM PDT Today Google announced an Android 2.2 SDK refresh that brings it "into sync with the system image pushed to Nexus One devices." comScore: Samsung, Android gain U.S. market share Posted: 08 Jul 2010 09:17 AM PDT comScore released the results of its latest report, which measured U.S. market share of top phone manufacturers and operating systems. The report represents a three month period between February 2010 and May 2010. AT&T Samsung Captivate Android smartphone landing on July 18th for $199.99 Posted: 08 Jul 2010 08:51 AM PDT Today AT&T and Samsung announced that the Android powered Samsung Captivate will be available on AT&T for $199.99 beginning on July 18th. The Captivate is a member of Samsung's Galaxy S family of smartphones, and sports a large 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen and a 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor, among other premium features. Symbian^3 product development kit 3.0.0 available for download Posted: 08 Jul 2010 08:42 AM PDT Today the Symbian Foundation announced that the first product development kit (PDK), since Symbian S^3 achieved its functionally complete stage, is now available to developers for download. Opera's Opera Mini 5.1 browser improves performance on low-end phones Posted: 08 Jul 2010 05:29 AM PDT Today Opera announced the latest version of its mobile browser, Opera Mini 5.1. The latest version is optimized for phones with limited memory. Opera offers some examples, including the Nokia 5130 XpressMusic, Nokia 6300, and Nokia 2700. It's also optimized for smaller screen sizes for devices such as the Sony Ericsson K550i and W810i. Opera Mini compresses data by up to 90 percent to help avoid 'out of memory' errors. Vodafone U.K. to carry Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro Posted: 08 Jul 2010 05:08 AM PDT Vodafone U.K. has lsited the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro on its "coming soon" website. The Android powered Xperia X10 Mini Pro offers a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 5 megapixel camera, and Sony Ericsson's custom user interface. Vodafone U.K. did not list a specific date or pricing.
