MeeGo v1.0 project release available for netbooks, Nokia N900, handset SDK launching in June

MeeGo, the open sourced Linux project headed up by Intel and Nokia, recently announced the project release of MeeGo v1.0 for netbooks and the Nokia N900. The software includes instant access to your synchronized calendar, tasks, appointments, recently used files, and real-time social networking updates all on the homescreen in a rich visual experience. MeeGo integrates Google Chrome for browsing, but there's also a full open source Google Chromium browser. MeeGo will release the next version of the MeeGo software development kit (SDK) in June, with a focus on touch-based devices such as handsets and tablets.

Google launches Location History Dashboard for Latitude users

Today Google announced a new beta feature called Google Location History. It works with Latitude to show you where you've been. The software can then be used to tell you information, such as how much time you've spent at home versus out on the road, or where you were at a certain point in time. You'll also be able to see how far you've traveled. Google says that, in an effort to protect privacy, the experience is entirely optional and is an opt-in only feature. To turn it on, launch Latitude on your phone and enable Google Location History.

T-Mobile Garmin Garminfone Android smartphone will be available on June 9th for $199.99

Today T-Mobile announced that the Garmin Garminfone, which we just reviewed, will be available beginning on June 9th in stores and online. It will be available for $199.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate and with a 2-year contract.

U.S. lawmakers propose prepaid cell phone registration requirements

Today U.S. lawmakers proposed a new bill that would require anyone purchasing a new prepaid phone to show identification. U.S. wireless carriers would also be responsible for keeping this information on file. The bill was proposed in an effort to remove the anonymity of prepaid phones, which are used by criminals for that very reason.

Garmin Garminfone for T-Mobile review - Android and navigation all in one

The Garminfone is T-Mobile USA's version of the Garmin-ASUS A50 that was introduced at Mobile World Congress. It runs the Android 1.6 smartphone OS and offers all of the GPS-aware goodies that you'd find in a high-end Garmin car navigation system. Todd tests it out for us in this review.

3 shows data plan prices for international Apple iPad

Apple store update sparks fear of another international iPad delay

Apple has changed the wording used for the ship dates for its international iPads. Apple's store now says the iPads will ship in "June," instead of specifically on "June 7th." This might imply further delays, but it could just be a simple change in the store that has no bearing on actual ship dates. After all, the last time Apple delayed the iPad internationally, the company issued a statement.

Google Nexus One lands in retail stores

A small wireless carrier in the Midwest called "i wireless" will begin selling the Google Nexus One in stores, as one of the first carriers to offer the phone in a retail outlet. i wireless owns 250 full-service stores across Iowa, western Illinois, and eastern Nebraska, and will sell the device with a T-Mobile contract for $300 after rebates. That's $120 more than it costs if you buy it online. The Nexus One is also still available on Google's website at Google.com/phone, but that store will be closing in the future.

Holiday Inn to trial smartphone room keys

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is going to start a trial that will allow customers at two of its Holiday Inn hotels, one in Chicago and the other in Houston, to open their hotel rooms with a smartphone. The group is also offering bonus reward points to those that use the social network Gowalla during their stay.

Zer01, the firm that gained much publicity after promising, and failing to deliver, unlimited data and VoIP calling for $69.99 per month has lost a $43 million lawsuit filed by its former business partner, Global Verge.

T-Mobile USA CEO Robert Dotson to resign

Today Robert Dotson, CEO of T-Mobile USA, said that he will be leaving the firm. Dotson will stay on as an advisor until May 2011, and will be replaced by Philipp Humm, a former T-Mobile Deutschland CEO.
