Clearwire to feature 4G phones from HTC and Samsung Posted: 05 May 2010 05:50 PM PDT As part of its Q1 2010 earnings report, WiMAX carrier Clearwire announced that it will offer 4G WiMAX handsets from HTC and Samsung before the end of the year. The report says that Samsung's offering will be "an Android-based 3G/4G/WiFi device optimized for heavy video and video communications use", but no other details on the HTC device were offered. iPhone OS 4.0 beta 3 now available for developers Posted: 05 May 2010 12:01 PM PDT Apple has released its iPhone OS 4.0 beta 3 to iPhone developer program members. Apple wasn't specific about what's included in the latest version, but hopefully it's more stable than the second beta, which many reported was a bit unusable, according to Engadget. AT&T has 3x the dropped calls of Verizon Wireless, study finds Posted: 05 May 2010 10:36 AM PDT A new study conducted by ChangeWave that included 4,000 participants during a 3 month period found Verizon Wireless customers experienced dropped calls 1.5 percent of the time while AT&T customers said 4.5 percent of their calls dropped. Google updates homepage for iPhone, Android smartphones Posted: 05 May 2010 09:28 AM PDT Today Google announced that it has updated its Google.com homepage for both the iPhone and Android smartphones. To the left of the search box is a new options menu that lets you refine your search by time (latest, past 24 hours, past week, past year, or a specific date), or even specify whether you're trying to search for news, products, updates, or everything. Google says it will be supporting more devices and locales in the coming weeks, as well as expanding the options already available. Read the full story here. |
LG Ally smartphone runs Android 2.1, additional specs exposed Posted: 05 May 2010 09:09 AM PDT We wrote recently about the LG Ally after seeing it in a few TV commercials for Iron Man 2. A new website has launched at www.lgim2.com, and it lists a few specs of LG Ally 2. The phone will run Android 2.1, with live wallpapers, and will offer a 3.1-inch display. The QWERTY keyboard also looks large, and includes four rows of keys, including a number line. There's also a 5-way directional pad. Nokia and Microsoft launch Office Communicator Mobile for E72 and E52 Posted: 05 May 2010 06:45 AM PDT Today Nokia and Microsoft announced the availability of Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia smartphones. The software allows Microsoft Office Communicator users to more easily communicate and collaborate with each other via IM, SMS, email, or voice, and shows real-time presence information for each user. Intel takes a jab at Qualcomm's Snapdragon with its new Moorestown Atom processor family Posted: 05 May 2010 06:01 AM PDT Intel has officially launched its latest low-power Atom processor family, based on the Moorestown design.
