Translation comes to Google Goggles for Android smartphones

Today Google announced that its Google Goggles application is capable of translating foreign language text. Simply launch the Google Goggles application, take a picture of the text (on a menu, for example), and then Google will provide the option to translate. Goggles can read English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish and can translate "many more languages." Non-latin languages, such as Chinese, Hindi, and Arabic are not yet supported but Google is working on them. Goggles is supported on Android 1.6 and newer smartphones.

Virgin Mobile to offer BlackBerry Curve 8530 for $299.99, new feature phones

Today Virgin Mobile announced that it will begin carrying the BlackBerry Curve 8530 smartphone for $299.99 at the end of May. The device is one of the newer Curve models and offers an optical trackpad, WiFi connectivity, and a 3.2 megapixel camera. The carrier will also carry the LG Rumor Touch for $149.99, the LG Rumor 2 for $89.99, and the Kyocera Loft, a QWERTY feature phone, for $69.99.

Virgin Mobile announces new "Beyond Talk" prepaid plans

Today Virgin Mobile, owned by Sprint, announced new "Beyond Talk" prepaid plans that will go into effect beginning on May 12th. The new plans include a $25 unlimited messaging, email, data, and web with 300 minutes choice, a $40 unlimited messaging, email, data, and web for 1,200 minutes option, or a $60 unlimited plan that includes everything. Virgin Mobile also said that, for the first time, customers can add BlackBerry data service for $10 more.
