T-Mobile now offering HSPA+ webConnect Rocket in metro New York City area Posted: 20 May 2010 05:12 AM PDT Today T-Mobile has started offering its HSPA+ based webConnect Rocket USB modem in New York City, Long Island, and parts of New Jersey. The company also noted that its HSPA+ network in Los Angeles is expected to go live soon. T-Mobile's HSPA+ network is capable of offering multi-megabit per second download speeds. Twitter for BlackBerry updated, adds many new features Posted: 19 May 2010 02:50 PM PDT RIM has just announced that an update for its official Twitter for BlackBerry client will start rolling out tonight. It features new, editable retweets, user name auto-completion, viewing of geo-tagged tweets, and more keyboard navigation hotkeys, among other things. Google announces Latitude API for mobile developers Posted: 19 May 2010 01:20 PM PDT Today Google announced a new Latitude API for developers that allows them to use Latitude locations inside their applications. Some ideas Google has in mind include thermostats that turn on or off depending on how close you are to home, traffic alerts based on your location, credit card alerts that let you know of fraud if your card is used far away, and photo albums that show your photos on top of the locations you took them. LiMo to launch handsets on three more major carriers this year Posted: 19 May 2010 10:49 AM PDT The Linux Mobile (LiMo) foundation's executive director, Morgan Gillis, said that Vodafone was the first of four total carriers that will launch handsets this year during the Reuters Global Technology Summit. The carriers could be subsidiaries of France Telecom, Telefonica Verizon, or SK Telecom. The LiMo foundation was launched in 2007 to help deliver a Linux-based platform to mobile devices. The Garminfone is an Android device that is focused on GPS navigation and related tasks, while offering a Garmin-ASUS modified user interface that is very nice to look at. T-Mobile's RIM BlackBerry Bold 9700 gets firmware update Posted: 19 May 2010 07:31 AM PDT It's official, T-Mobile is now offering a firmware update for the BlackBerry Bold 9700. The new OS 5.0.0.586 offers an overall increase in general stability, separate icon for BES e-mail, improvements to SMS UI, improved BlackBerry Messenger client, visual voicemail improvements, improved 3G calling, mobile backup support, and better trackpad performance. Sprint HTC Hero Android 2.1 update now available Posted: 19 May 2010 07:00 AM PDT Sprint quietly launched the Android 2.1 firmware update for its HTC Hero today. Instead of being applied over-the-air, you'll have to download the update as an executable file from Sprint. Android 2.1 typically adds live wallpapers, voice-to-text functionality, and free navigation, but will also include the latest update of HTC's Sense UI. The device is essentially the LG Remarq, an eco-friendly feature phone that launched on Sprint in March. It offers a 1.3 megapixel camera, a Pocket Express feature for news, sports, weather, and more, as well as an MP3 player. The device is available now for $109 in MetroPCS stores or online.
