Verizon pushes out HTC DROID Eris Android 2.1 update Posted: 11 May 2010 06:25 PM PDT Verizon has started pushing out an over the air firmware update for the HTC DROID Eris that upgrades the device to the Android 2.1 OS. The update appears to offer HTC's latest Sense UI enhancements, as seen on the Desire, which includes the thumbnail-based 7 panel homescreen view. T-Mobile Garminfone set to launch in June for $199.99 Posted: 11 May 2010 05:19 PM PDT Today T-Mobile USA said that the Garminfone, an Android 1.6 powered smartphone, will begin retailing in June for $199.99 with a 2-year contract. T-Mobile didn't give specific details on the release date. The device offers voice guided turn-by-turn directions and features that the carrier says are superior to those offered on Garmin's high-end personal navigation devices, and it comes preloaded with a host of Garmin services. Google Maps 4.2 for Android now offers biking directions, sharing feature Posted: 11 May 2010 12:18 PM PDT Today Google announced that Google Maps 4.2 with Android now provides biking directions, among a few other enhancements. Bike-only trails are marked in a dark green color while roads with bike lanes are light green. You can now add a Navigation shortcut to your homescreen, so that you can quickly begin navigating without first opening your main menu. Google also added a "Sharing" feature that lets you share a place's address and phone number, or your exact location (including an optional snapshot). The software works on Android smartphones with Android 1.6 or newer installed, and you'll need to update Maps to the latest version by re-downloading it in the Android Market. "Everything Everywhere" is name for Orange and T-Mobile U.K. joint venture Posted: 11 May 2010 08:45 AM PDT "Everything Everywhere" is officially the name of the company that will run both Orange and T-Mobile U.K. when it is integrated on July 1. Tom Alexander is the chief executive of Everything Everywhere, a 16,500 employee company, and says "We are Everything Everywhere - it's our name, our vision, and our ambition - and we run two of the U.K.'s biggest brands Orange and T-Mobile."
