Hootsuite acquires Seesmic, plans to phase-out app soon Posted: 06 Sep 2012 09:35 AM PDT Social media apps Hootsuite and Seesmic will join forces following Hootsuite's acquisition of the latter. The two companies with competing Twitter clients and social media tools geared at enterprise and power users announced plans to merge today. Enterprise users will be transitioned to Hootsuite's slate of app tools for Facebook, Twitter, and other communication platforms. The announcement also encourages non-business users of Seesmic to begin looking for new desktop and mobile apps as Hootsuite will soon cease support those apps. Combined with yesterday's announcement that there are 480 million active Android devices, that means there may be more than 106 million phone and tablets running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Samsung Galaxy S III passes 20 million sales mark in record time Posted: 06 Sep 2012 05:34 AM PDT Samsung has sold more than 20 million units of its Galaxy S III Android smartphone in just 100 days. The Korean manufacturer reports that this is the fastest that any Galaxy S has reached the 20 million sales milestone. It took the Galaxy S II almost three times as long to sell as many phones, but an average of 200,000 phones sold per day has made the Galaxy S III Samsung's most successful Android phone launch ever.
