They disappeared once Verizon's LTE network launched with support for simultaneous voice and data, but AT&T may be able to re-run those ads once the Apple iPhone 5 launches. Facebook for BlackBerry adds new icons, birthday alerts, and more event support Posted: 13 Sep 2012 07:19 AM PDT Facebook for BlackBerry has been updated with a few small tweaks to improve using the world's biggest social networking site. Version 3.2 of the app has a new navigation grid that can provide quick access to a News Feed or other sections, including a user's current profile image being used as the icon to link to his her or profile. The BlackBerry calendar now integrates with Facebook so users will get alerts on a friend's birthday that has direct links to write on his or her wall. The app also has enhanced Events options to post on an events wall, view profiles of other people who have been invited, and get notifications related to the event. Cricket will offer iPhone 5 on prepaid plans beginning Sept. 28 Posted: 13 Sep 2012 06:01 AM PDT Cricket has become the first prepaid carrier to declare that it will offer the Apple iPhone 5. The Leap Wireless subsidiary announced today that beginning September 28, it will begin selling the iPhone 5 in select Cricket markets. The carrier is otherwise very light on details. It has not named which markets will be eligible, how much the iPhone 5 will cost, or if there will be any stipulations in usage. Cricket began selling the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S in June and pairing the device with its $55 unlimited plans. The company is likely to sell the iPhone 5 at full retail price for use with its recent $50 to $70 unlimited plans. Read the full story here. |
iPhone 5 HD Voice won't work on Sprint's network Posted: 13 Sep 2012 05:45 AM PDT Though Sprint supports HD Voice and the Apple iPhone 5 has HD Voice, the higher quality audio calling feature will not be available on the iPhone 5 tied to Sprint's network. Sprint spokesperson Michelle Leff Mermelstein confirmed to Phone Scoop that the iPhone 5 will not support HD Voice because Sprint's network optimizes calls with CDMA 1x Advanced technology, which is not compatible with Apple's method. Most carriers use WCDMA for HD Voice, so Sprint's network optimization design has so far been confirmed only for the HTC EVO 4G LTE. Read the full story here. |

The DROID RAZR M is one of three new DROID phones Motorola and Verizon recently jointly announced, and though it is the smallest, it's no slouch. The phone has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Advanced display, a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, an 8 megapixel camera, and Android 4.0. It also supports Verizon's 4G LTE network and is global ready for use in more than 205 countries. The DROID RAZR M is on sale now for $99 after a mail-in rebate. Verizon and Sprint will not charge iPhone users for FaceTime over cellular Posted: 13 Sep 2012 05:13 AM PDT Though AT&T has already confirmed that it will require customers to switch to a Mobile Share plan in order to use FaceTime over cellular in the Apple iPhone 5, it's two biggest rivals have stated they will not force customers to pay extra or alter their existing plans to use it.
