Bitdefender USSD Wipe Stopper protects users from malicious wipe code until Samsung issues patch for vulnerable phones

Security researchers discovered this week that several Samsung phones are vulnerable to a "dirty USSD" attack that can wipe a phone's data without the user's permission. Mobile security firm Bitdefender has introduced a new app that prevents the attack from being implemented.

Verizon NFL Mobile app adds Android 4.1 and HD screen support

The real referees are returning to the NFL tonight, and the matchup between the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens will also mark the first game in which the NFL Mobile app has worked on some of Android's best phones. The Verizon NFL Mobile app previously had compatibility issues with some phones running Android 4.1 or an HD resolution. The update addresses those and other bugs to make the app work more smoothly with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Samsung Galaxy S III. While the previous version crashed for some users, most should be able to once again access the app. Download from Google Play

Samsung hosting launch party for Galaxy Note II October 24, more release details likely to follow

Samsung Mobile has already confirmed that the Galaxy Note II will launch on all four major carriers this fall, though it left it up to the individual carriers to provide price and launch date specifics. So far, only regional carrier U.S. Cellular has declared a price, but the others will likely have to follow suit soon now that Samsung has scheduled a launch event for October 24 in New York City. Samsung has sent us a Save the Date notification where it will showcase "The Next Big Thing," which just happens to be the Galaxy Note II. I can only hope they'll soon confirm the day I'll be able to sign my RSVP notification with an S Pen.

Amazon asks court to dismiss Apple lawsuit over "App Store" name
