BlackBerry service restored in Europe after hours-long outage

RIM has restored service to BlackBerry handsets affected by an early-morning outage that plagued devices in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The cause of the problem has to be disclosed to the public, but RIM says that it affected nearly 5 million of its users.

HBO Go, Hulu Plus, and Max Go for Android add closed captioning and social network sharing

Three popular apps for watching television episodes on mobile devices have updated today to enable closed captioning. Following similar updates for iOS apps last week, the Android apps for Cinemax, HBO, and Hulu Plus now make it possible to read on-screen text of what characters are saying just as easily it is to hear it. The captioning is available in multiple languages on compatible phones. Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update happening now

Vodafone to close its AppSelect Android app store

BlackBerry service outage hits some users in Europe, Middle East, and Africa

Some users in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa have been unable to use some services on their RIM BlackBerry devices today. RIM has been unable to pinpoint the cause of the outage, but the company has acknowledged that there is a problem and announced that it is now investigating how it can restore service to affected users. The outage comes nearly a year after a worldwide system failure disrupted BlackBerry communication services for millions of users. It is also an embarrassing incident because it occurs as the Apple iPhone 5 has debuted as an instant hit, a feat that RIM has not accomplished in several years.
