Motorola promises Android 4.1 for more devices soon, $100 credit for non-upgradeable phones

Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside has announced that Motorola will bring Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to as many devices as possible, and credit users who devices cannot be updated. At a launch event for its new RAZR phones, Woodside stated that Motorola's new devices will be upgraded to Jelly Bean by the end of the year. He also promised that many phones released since 2011 will be upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean "soon." However, Woodside admitted that some phones will not be able to upgrade to Android 4.1, so Motorola will offer affected consumers a $100 credit towards the purchase of a new phone.

Android activates 1.3 million devices each day, now on more than 480 million phones and tablets

Google Chairman Eric Schmidt has just revealed that Android activates more than 1.3 million devices each day. At a launch event for new Motorola devices, Schmidt announced that Android now reaches more than 480 million active devices, including phones and tablets. That's an increase from the 1 million Google announced at its I/O conference in June. According to Schmidt, Google also activates 70,000 new tablets each day, despite being late to the market.

T-Mobile turns on unlimited 4G data plans, drops prices on select 4G phones

T-Mobile announced last month that it would begin offering unlimited 4G data plans with no throttling or unpublished caps. Today, the U.S. carrier has officially begun offering "truly unlimited nationwide 4G data" on its HSPA+ network. To celebrate the launch of its new plans, and T-Mobile's 10th anniversary in the United States, the carrier is also lowering the price on select phones. Customers who activate a new two-year agreement with Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data Plan can get a new HTC One S for free after a $50 mail-in rebate. Consumers can visit a local T-Mobile retail location or http://www.t-mobile.com/unlimited-data-plan to select a plan.
