Boost intros Monthly Unlimited "shrinkage" plans Posted: 14 Oct 2010 03:30 AM PDT Today Boost announced new "Monthly Unlimited with Shrinkage" plans. Boost Mobile customers will see the monthly payment for their unlimited plans shrink by $5 for every six months that they pay on time, allowing their monthly cost to drop down to as little as $35. Customers who don't make a payment on time will not be penalized and will still keep their previously earned Shrinkage monthly rates. Read the full story here. |

T-Mobile adding data to prepaid cellphone plans Posted: 13 Oct 2010 10:43 AM PDT T-Mobile USA today announced that beginning on October 18 it will introduce new prepaid plans that include voice, text, and data. The new plans include a $70 monthly Unlimited Talk and Text with 2GB of data, $50 per month Unlimited Talk and Text with 100MB of data, and $30 per month 1,500 Talk and Text with 30MB of data. T-Mobile will also offer an unlimited text with $0.10 per minute voice plan and users can also purchase a $1.49 Web DayPass. Read the full story here. |
Samsung SGH-t959 Vibrant JI6 software update guide now available Posted: 13 Oct 2010 10:03 AM PDT Today Samsung released a guide for T-Mobile Vibrant owners who wish to update their device to the newest JI6 firmware. The update includes some software improvements, and a host of fixes. Samsung's Media Hub application, which provides on demand movies and television shows, is also part of the update. To install JI6 yourself, head over to Samsung's step-by-step guide. Vibrant owners may also choose to wait for the over-the-air update which is rolling out over the next few weeks. TweetDeck 1.0 for Android now available Posted: 13 Oct 2010 09:13 AM PDT Today TweetDeck announced that its Android application is officially available. TweetDeck originally launched a beta application for Android smartphones on August 12th. The firm said that it is going to work on adding deeper Facebook integration, as well as better multiple account support in upcoming versions. Qualcomm buys iSkoot Technologies Posted: 13 Oct 2010 09:03 AM PDT Today Qualcomm Innovation Center (QuIC), a subsidiary of Qualcomm, announced that it has purchased iSkoot Technologies. iSkoot helps device manufacturers and wireless carriers integrate social networks and internet services with their handsets. "QuIC's acquisition of iSkoot provides us with a push data services platform, a social network aggregation solution and voice 2.0 services that dramatically strengthens our ability to continue providing the most effective mobile solutions for operators and device makers as they serve consumers worldwide," Rob Chandhok, president of QuIC, said. Clearwire looking for up to $5 billion in wireless spectrum auction Posted: 13 Oct 2010 08:22 AM PDT Clearwire is hoping to raise between $2.5 billion and $5 billion in a wireless spectrum auction. The firm is selling up to 40MHz of spectrum, per market, in an effort to raise funding for network expansion. AT&T, Deutsche Telekom AG, Sprint Nextel, Time Warner, and Verizon Wireless are among the firms interested in buying the spectrum, sources speaking to Bloomberg said. Verizon to pre-load Amazon Kindle app on Android smartphones Posted: 13 Oct 2010 06:51 AM PDT Today Verizon Wireless announced that it will begin to preload Amazon's Kindle e-reader application on some of its Android smartphones. Verizon Wireless will preload the software on the Motorola DROID 2, the Motorola DROID X, and the Samsung Fascinate. HTC Desire gets Android 2.2 Froyo update Posted: 13 Oct 2010 06:48 AM PDT Three in the UK has announced that its HTC Desire owners will be receiving an over-the-air (OTA) update to move their handsets up to Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system. Version 2.25.771.1 is expected to provide the latest iteration of HTC Sense, 720p HD video capture, HTC's App Share widget, HTC Caller ID, and an improved multi-language keyboard.
