Samsung Transform Android smartphone now available from Sprint

The Samsung Transform, a new Android-powered smartphone announced last week at CTIA in San Francisco, is now available for purchase from Sprint. The phone features a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen display as well as dual cameras for full video conferencing support. The Transform is also compatible with Sprint ID packs, which allow you to quickly add packages of apps, ringtones, and home screen configurations to your phone. The Transform is available now for $149.99 with a 2 year contract, after a $100 mail-in rebate.

Nokia C7 Symbian^3 smartphone now shipping

Today Nokia announced that the C7 its second Symbian^3 powered smartphone, is now shipping to customers around the globe. The C7 was announced at Nokia World in September and offers a 3.5-inch AMOLED display, an 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and HD video recording, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, and more. The C7 currently costs 335 EUR ($434).

Ford updates Sync for text messaging, will release mobile app SDK

Ford recently announced its intentions to offer a software developer kit for its in-car Sync system that will allow mobile app developers to build applications that integrate Ford's cars with smartphones. The new system could be used, for example, to read and reply to text and email messages using voice recognition and speech synthesis technologies. The SDK will also allow for applications that make use of in-car controls like touchscreens and steering wheel buttons. The new version of Sync already allows inbound text messages to be read aloud and replied to with one of 15 presets using a steering wheel button and voice commands.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab to cost $399 on contract

TmoNews, a site dedicated to information on T-Mobile USA, has published what it claims to be internal T-Mobile slides that provide information on the company's upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab Android tablet - including the price. The slide lists the Galaxy Tab as being available for $399 with a 2 year contract (after a $50 mail-in rebate), or available at a "dealer price" of $649.99. This falls in line with recently leaked Galaxy Tab pricing for Sprint, which is also supposedly set at $399. While it has been suggested that the Sprint version of the Galaxy Tab will go on sale November 14, no such date has been uncovered for the T-Mobile version. We have neither pricing nor available info for the AT&T and Verizon versions.

Microsoft launching Windows Phone 7 smartphones from Samsung, HTC, and LG tomorrow

In case you have missed the chatter, Microsoft will be officially unveiling its first batch of Windows Phone 7 smartphones tomorrow at an event held in New York, as well as at parallel events in other parts of the world. Samsung, HTC, and LG are expected to unveil devices tomorrow, and while AT&T will be the main carrier player in the U.S., T-Mobile USA is also expected to show some support for the new smartphone platform with partner HTC and a nearby showcase event. Todd and I will both be on-site with Microsoft and its partners to bring you hands-on impressions of the devices. Stay tuned.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 Android smartphone now available

Sony Ericsson's Xperia X8 Android smartphone is now available. The X8 is an Android 1.6 powered smartphone that sports a compact 3-inch touchscreen display, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a 3.2-megapixel camera. The X8 will ship with Android 1.6 but will get Android 2.1 later this year. Pricing and exact availability have not been announced, but Sony Ericsson has indicated that the X8 is hitting store shelves around the world now.

Android-powered Sanyo Zio smartphone now available from Sprint

Today Sprint introduces a new smartphone to its Android line-up, the Sanyo Zio from Kyocera. The Zio is available now for $99.99 with a new Sprint contract and after rebates.
