LG ditches Android 2.2 tablet effort Posted: 04 Oct 2010 05:27 AM PDT LG may have ditched efforts to create a tablet running the Android 2.2 operating system. "We plan to introduce a tablet that runs on the most reliable Android version. We are in talks with Google to decide on the most suitable version for our tablet, and that is not Froyo 2.2," an LG official told Reuters. LG originally planned to release an Android-based Optimus tablet during the fourth quarter of 2010. It had said its tablet would "deliver vastly superior performance than other similar devices currently on the market while still managing to be thinner and lighter than competing devices." Google acquires mobile typing firm BlindType Posted: 04 Oct 2010 05:18 AM PDT Google recently announced that it has acquired BlindType, a firm whose Android software, which goes by the same name, auto-corrects touchscreen typing to avoid spelling errors. "We're excited to welcome the BlindType team to Google. With their help, we hope to make touch typing on your mobile device easier and faster than ever," a Google spokesperson said. T-Mobile could unveil Windows Phone 7 devices on October 11 Posted: 04 Oct 2010 05:13 AM PDT Microsoft is holding a Windows Phone 7 event at the Microsoft Technology Center in New York on Monday, October 11. Microsoft will officially launch its new Windows Phone 7 operating system, and, according to its itinerary, T-Mobile "reps will be present for device showing and their service offering discussion." While we've seen leaks for the Samsung Cetus, which could be headed to AT&T, there's not a ton of info on potential T-Mobile devices just yet. Samsung, HTC, and LG phones are expected to be present, and we're expecting an AT&T presence as well. Read the full story here. |
Verizon Wireless issues refund for accidental data use Posted: 04 Oct 2010 05:04 AM PDT Today Verizon Wireless said that, during October and November, it will notify 15 million of its customers about a mistake in past data charges. Verizon Wireless will issue the customers refund checks that are worth $2 to $6, on average. Some customers will get larger refunds. Verizon Wireless said that some customers, who did not have data plans, were accidentally billed for data sessions on their phones that they didn't initiate. Verizon says it has addressed the issue to avoid accidental data charges in the future. Read the full story here. |
T-Mobile myTouch HSPA+ Android smartphone announced Posted: 04 Oct 2010 04:53 AM PDT Today T-Mobile USA announced its myTouch smartphone. The myTouch supports T-Mobile's HSPA+ networks, has a front-facing camera for video chats, and offers support for Wi-Fi calling.
