Pandora updated for BlackBerry 6 devices

Today Pandora announced that it has released its latest version of its BlackBerry application. Pandora v1.1.5 supports the BlackBerry Style 9670, universal search integration on BlackBerry OS 6, and some bug fixes. It should be available in BlackBerry App World.

HTC ships 6.3 million smartphones in Q3 2010

Today HTC announced its Q3 2010 financial results. The firm shipped 6.3 million units, a 143 percent increase year-over-year. Its goal is to ship 9 million during Q4 2010.

Americans frown on cellphone use at meals, likely do it anyway

A new survey from Zagat found that 63 percent of American's think using a phone during a meal is rude, although we figure most people are likely to do it anyway. Similarly, the survey found that even having a camera at the table can be rude. 68 percent of diners said that taking pictures of meals inside a restaurant "is only acceptable in moderation," according to NY Daily News.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 family Android 2.1 rollout starts Sunday

Today Sony Ericsson announced that it will roll out the Android 2.1 update to its Xperia X10, X10 mini, and X10 mini pro on Sunday. The Xperia X10 will gain HD-video recording capabilities, multiple homescreens, and more. The Xperia X10 mini and mini pro will get a new backup and restore application, improved Bluetooth functionality, and other benefits of Android 2.1. Sony Ericsson said the update will be rolled out over-the-air in most markets and says that it may require PC software.

Next Apple iPad could sport 5MP camera

Today Barron's reported that OmniVision may be working with Apple on the next version of the Apple iPad. A research firm called Detweiler Fenton said that OmniVision will supply the CMOS image sensor, and that the iPad will likely ship with a 5 megapixel rear camera and a forward facing VGA camera for video chat.

Verizon Wireless intros tiered data plans

As expected, today Verizon Wireless introduced a new data plan option. Verizon Wireless subcribers can now opt to purchase a $15 monthly data plan that provides just 150MB of data. An unlimited $29.99 monthly data plan is also still available. The new 150MB option is likely best suited for feature phone users that aren't planning to use the web too much.

AT&T launching BlackBerry Torch 9800 in red and white

Today AT&T announced that it will release its BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphone in new colors. Beginning on November 7 the BlackBerry Torch 9800 will be available in white or red. The BlackBerry Torch was the first commercial U.S. device to launch with the BlackBerry 6 operating system, and it offers both a touchscreen and a full QWERTY keyboard. Google Maps for Android updated with new search features, real-time Latitude

Today Google announced that its Google Maps for Android application has been updated with new features. Google Maps 4.6 has a revamped Place reviews page, new options to filter search results, and a real-time updating Google Latitude option. Searches can now be filtered by restaurants currently open, by neighborhood, or by related searches. Google Latitude's real-time updating feature provides faster location updating. To use the feature, you and your friends must have Maps 4.6 installed and be running Android 2.2+. Maps 4.6 is available for Android 1.6 in the Android Market.

Verizon, FCC reach agreement over wrongful data charges

Today Verizon Wireless said that it has reached an agreement with the FCC after inadvertently charging some its customers inappropriate data fees. Verizon Wireless has already begun to issue credits to its customers, and said today that it will pay $25 million to the U.S. Treasury.

Motorola reports mobile shipment increase in Q3 2010 earnings report

Today Motorola released its third quarter 2010 earnings report. Its mobile segment shipped more phones quarter-over-quarter, 9.1 million, of which 3.8 million were smartphones.

Amazon Kindle app for Windows Phone 7 coming soon

Amazon has posted a new splash page alerting its customers that it will soon release a Kindle application for Windows Phone 7 smartphones. The app will deliver over 725,000 e-books, allow you to choose different font sizes, and use Whispersync to stay in sync with your books across various devices. Amazon wasn't specific on when the application would launch. The Kindle software is already available on the PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, and Android smartphones.

Financial Times app launching for Samsung Galaxy Tab

Today the Financial Times announced that it is launching an HTML5-based application for Samsung's Galaxy Tab Android tablet. The free app will be available beginning on November 1 and will provide access to Financial Times content to FT subscribers. Users will also be able to access FT video content. According to The Inquirer, Samsung is also teaming up with Gameloft for gaming content, and WHSmith for ebooks.

Yesterday Verizon Wireless announced the Pantech Crux and the LG Octane, and today both devices are available for purchase. The LG Octane is a clamshell QWERTY phone with a 3.2 megapixel camera. The Pantech Crux offers a 3-inch touchscreen, an HTML web browser, and more. The LG Octane is available for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate and with a new contract. The Pantech Crux is available for $49.99 with a 2-year contract.

Verizon Wireless and Motorola are rolling out a software update for the Motorola DROID 2. The update improves battery life, heightens the proximity sensor accuracy, and fixes some issues with email sync, the weather widget, and more. The update should also fix GPS navigation with faster location tracking, and offers faster transitions between Wi-Fi and 3G. You can also now add pictures from your gallery to a contact, and export contacts to your SD card. The update will be pushed out over-the-air, or you can install it manually. Sprint announces Mobile Wallet payment feature

Today Sprint announced a new feature for its customers called Mobile Wallet. Mobile Wallet will allow users to enter in their Visa, Mastercard, or Amazon Payment account number and use a universal PIN to make purchases with those accounts. When purchasing either a physical or digital good from their phone, customers simply need to choose to pay with "Sprint Mobile Wallet" at checkout, and their account will be billed. SkyMall, Gameloft, and Namco are currently among merchants accepting Sprint Mobile Wallet payments, and Sprint says more are coming soon. Sprint Mobile Wallet will launch in mid-November and will be available through Sprint Zone. In 2011 it will come preinstalled on Sprint phones.
