Nokia 500 is the first 1GHz smartphone to come out of Espoo

Despite all of its talk of Windows Phone, Nokia is still cranking out Symbian-powered smartphones, and the 500 is the latest handset to come out of the Finnish company's labs. Sporting a familiar slab design, the 500 is the first Nokia smartphone equipped with a 1GHz processor.

Motorola PHOTON 4G WiMAX smartphone now available from Sprint

A few days ago the privileged elite among Sprint customers, the Premiere customers as Sprint likes to call them, had the opportunity to order the latest 4G WiMAX smartphone from the carrier, the Motorola PHOTON 4G. Now, the rest of us can get in on the action, as Sprint has made the PHOTON 4G available for all online and in Sprint locations. Two hundred bucks and a new two-year commitment will earn you the first global-capable WiMAX smartphone from Sprint. The PHOTON 4G is powered by a dual-core, 1GHz NVIDIA processor with 1GB of RAM, and has a 4.3-inch qHD (540 x 960 pixel) display. Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Motorola's custom interface runs the show. Take a look at our hands-on videos, and then head to your nearest Sprint store if the PHOTON 4G strikes your fancy.

The Motorola PHOTON 4G is the first high-end smartphone to come from Motorola for Sprint in a long time. It is also the first 4G WiMAX smartphone from Motorola, and the first WiMAX smartphone with global GSM support for Sprint. It features a 4.3-inch, qHD (540 x 960 pixel) display and a 1GHz, dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. The PHOTON 4G runs Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread with Motorola's custom interface on top that has a few nice tweaks of its own. The camera is an 8 megapixel unit with autofocus and a dual-LED flash. It records video at 720p (1280 x 720 pixel) HD resolution, but it does not autofocus while filming.
