Google shuts down Slide team that developed Disco, Photovine apps

Google has announced that it is shutting down the Slide team that it acquired when it purchased the company last year for $200 million. Slide was a social apps developer, and it created apps such as Disco and Photovine while owned by Google.

Motorola XOOM LTE upgrade to start with test groups next week

A long time ago, Motorola announced the first Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet to hit the market, the Motorola XOOM. At the time of announcement, it was promised that the XOOM's puny little 3G cellular radio would be upgraded to a fancy new 4G LTE unit shortly after its launch, which happened in February. Well, one can safely argue that we are well beyond the "shortly after" period, but it looks like Motorola is making the biggest steps to deploying the upgrade yet.

A sample 720p video recorded with the BlackBerry Torch 9850 for Sprint. The Torch 9850 records video in 720p HD (1280 x 720 pixel), and is capable of autofocusing while recording. It features an image stabilization mode and rather impressive noise cancellation with its microphones.

Verizon will not carry Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone

Sad news for those on Verizon Wireless who were holding out for the Samsung Galaxy S II to grace Big Red's network, as the carrier has confirmed that it will not be stocking the dual-core smartphone. According to the Wall Street Journal, versions of the Galaxy S II will make it to AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile, but not to Verizon Wireless.

The Federal Communications Commission has petitioned AT&T for more information regarding its purchase of T-Mobile. Specifically, the FCC wants AT&T to explain in more detail why it needs to purchase T-Mobile, in light of documents that were accidentally released by AT&T's legal counsel.

3G coverage in UK not as good as carriers claim, says survey

Wireless carriers in the UK have got some 'splaining to do, as a new survey of users shows that 3G coverage in the country is not nearly as widespread as the carriers claim. The carriers say that 90 percent of the UK is blanketed in 3G coverage, but the user survey shows it to be closer to 75 percent, a rather large discrepancy.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 ban in Germany upheld for now
