RIM's BBM Music offers social sharing of tunes

Confirming last week's reports that it was working on a music service that is integrated with BlackBerry Messenger, RIM has gone ahead and officially announced its new BBM Music service. BBM Music allows users to share music tracks with friends on their BlackBerry Messenger contact lists.

Facebook to incorporate photo filters in future mobile apps

According to the New York Times, Facebook will incorporate Instagram-like photo filters into future versions of its mobile apps. The Times spoke to two unnamed engineers at Facebook that revealed the company's plans.

Hulu blocks streaming to HP TouchPad tablet

Apparently the HP TouchPad firesale that caused quite a frenzy over this past weekend has made the dead tablet popular enough for Hulu to block streaming to it, much like the content company has done with every other Adobe Flash-enabled tablet. When users visit hulu.com from the TouchPad's browser, they are now greeted with a message that says their device is not supported by Hulu. There isn't even the option to watch if you are a paying Hulu Plus subscriber. Bad news if you bought a TouchPad over the weekend hoping to use it as a cheap Hulu viewer, but thems the breaks.

Motrola forced to pull ATRIX ads that claim most powerful smartphone in UK

It looks like Motorola will end up having to rework its advertising plans for the Motorola ATRIX smartphone in the UK, as a court has ruled that it can no longer claim it as the "most powerful" smartphone available. Last month, UK consumers filed a complaint against the tagline, since the Samsung Galaxy S II sports a 1.2GHz processor, compared to the ATRIX's 1GHz chip.

Apple iPhone for T-Mobile rumor rears head again, says October is the date

It was just yesterday that we heard reports that Sprint would be carrying the next generation iPhone from Apple come October, and now the rumor that the iPhone will be coming to T-Mobile has sprung up again. This time it comes from a tipster inside T-Mobile reporting to MacTrast, who pegs October as the release date as well.

SouthernLINC picks up Motorola Titanium smartphone

Regional iDEN carrier SouthernLINC has announced that it is now carrying the Motorola Titanium smartphone that debuted on Sprint not too long ago. The Titanium features a rugged design with a full QWERTY keyboard and a 3.1-inch touchscreen. It runs Android 2.1 Eclair, and has the necessary push-to-talk functions that make iDEN networks useful. SouthernLINC is offering the Titanium for $149.99, after rebate, when picked up with a new two-year contract, or for $249.99 with a one-year agreement.

Verizon to ask the president to step in on smartphone patent fights

According to the Wall Street Journal, Verizon Wireless might ask President Obama to use his presidential powers to intervene in the various litigation cases surrounding smartphones. Verizon says that if the president doesn't step in, the litigation could paralyze the industry and stop a number of devices from entering the U.S. market.

Windows Phone 'Tango' update minor, headed to low-end smartphones

If you happen to the be in the market for a new Android tablet computer AND you want to be able to watch Hulu Plus programming, then point your eyes towards VIZIO's 8-inch Tablet, as it has become the first Android tablet to offer HULU Plus capabilities. The $299 tablet has the ability to watch premium HULU Plus content, such as back episodes of 30 Rock, Modern Family, The X-Files, Arrested Development and Family Guy - as long as you pay the $7.99 per month subscription fee, of course. The Apple iPad has had a HULU Plus app for some time now, but the VIZIO Tablet is the first Android tablet to be graced with the ability, though it is of course an Android 2.3 Gingerbread tablet and not a 3.0 Honeycomb model.

Motorola PHOTON 4G gets update to fix calling issues

Sprint has begun pushing out an update to the Motorola PHOTON 4G Android smartphone that addresses a nasty bug when making calls. Numerous PHOTON 4G users have reported that there is no sound when placing or receiving phone calls. Apparently the PHOTON 4G was muting itself automatically, preventing any sound from coming through. This software update addresses that bug, and also improves overall stability of the system. Additionally, there is now Bluetooth support for mono headsets in the Sprint Visual Voicemail app. The update is rolling out in stages, and users will be notified when it is ready to be downloaded and installed. Alternately, users can check for updates in the System Updates section of the Settings app. Nice to see Sprint quickly resolve what must be an infuriating issue for PHOTON 4G users.

RIM updates BlackBerry PlayBook to accept delta updates

RIM has issued an update to the software on the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet today that gives it the ability to accept delta updates in the future. Previously, when the BlackBerry Tablet OS was updated, the entire OS had to be re-downloaded and installed, which took a long time in some cases.

Samsung Galaxy S, S II, Ace banned by Netherlands court

Samsung has just been dealt a blow by a Netherlands court in its ongoing battle with Apple over trade dress and design patents, as the court has banned the sale of its Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, and Galaxy Ace smartphones in the European Union by Samsung's Dutch subsidiaries because of patent violations. Curiously, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet has been spared from this particular injunction.
