HP turning off lights on webOS devices in Q4 2011

During HP's third quarter earnings call, CEO Leo Apotheker announced that the company intends to shut down the webOS hardware division in Q4 2011. HP will be trying to "optimize the value" of the webOS software division, which likely means shopping it around to potential licensees or suitors.

Fans of white smartphones (OK I admit, I like them too) will have another option to pick from, as Best Buy will begin carrying a white version of the HTC DROID Incredible 2 Android smartphone this Sunday. Best Buy has a habit of obtaining white editions of popular smartphones, and it carried a white version of the original Incredible last year. Spec-wise, the white Incredible 2 is the same as its black counterpart, and it will command the same $149.99 price with a new two-year agreement. Apple demands ban on all Samsung Galaxy smartphones, tablets in EU

If you thought there was any love between Apple and Samsung in their recent court battles, well, you thought wrong, as it has now been revealed that Apple has requested a ban on the sale of all Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets in the European Union. Previously, Apple had successfully obtained a ban on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in the EU, though that was later limited to only Germany.

China Mobile still in talks with Apple to carry iPhone

According to Reuters, China Mobile is still in talks with Apple to carry its iPhone smartphone. In fact, the carrier has even had multiple personal meetings with Apple CEO Steve Jobs to get an iPhone that works on its TD-SCDMA network, which doesn't exist outside of China.

Motorola can't shop itself around before Google buy

According to the terms of the proposed purchase of Motorola Mobility by Google that were released today, Motorola is prohibited from shopping itself around to other potential buyers in an effort to get a higher price. The company had to stop any solicited offers as of August 15, the day that Google announced its intent to buy.

Motorola shareholder sues to block Google buy

Apparently 63 percent above Motorola Mobility's stock price isn't enough for some investors, as a shareholder in the company has filed suit in an attempt to block Google's planned purchase of Motorola, claiming that the $12.5 billion price was not the best that Motorola could get and that CEO Sanjay Jha undervalued the company.

If you were holding out from purchasing the new BlackBerry Torch 9810 from Rogers or Telus in Canada because the silver color didn't strike your fancy, both carriers are now offering another option to satisfy your fashionista instincts. Customers can now purchase the Torch 9810 in white from either Rogers or Telus at the same price as the silver model ($199 CAD on 3-year contract from Rogers, or $129 on 3-year contract from Telus). No word on whether this color scheme will make its way to other parts of the world, but if history is any guide, there is a good chance AT&T will pick this up at some point in the future.
