Flipboard for Android to make exclusive debut on the Samsung Galaxy S III Posted: 03 May 2012 12:26 PM PDT Flipboard, the social news aggregation magazine app, has enjoyed immense popularity on the iOS platform since its launch, and it will likely see the same amount of popularity on the Android platform. Samsung has announced that the Galaxy S III will exclusively offer the Flipboard for Android app when it launches, though it is not clear how long that exclusivity will last. As with the iOS version, the Android version of Flipboard lets users log into their social feeds and RSS news feeds and thumb through articles and images that are shared by their friends or favorite sites. Unsurprisingly, it also offers a home screen widget. We expect that the new Flipboard app will be pre-installed on the Galaxy S III out of the box, but that wasn't entirely clear either. Samsung offers 50GB of Dropbox storage to Galaxy S III customers Posted: 03 May 2012 12:18 PM PDT Samsung has revealed that buyers of the new Galaxy S III smartphone will get 50GB of Dropbox storage for free. The storage will be available for two years once the user has registered his or her Dropbox account on the phone. Samsung Galaxy S III hits shelves in Europe on May 29 Posted: 03 May 2012 11:58 AM PDT Samsung has announced that its just unveiled Galaxy S III smartphone will be available for purchase in Europe starting on May 29. The new phone packs a quad-core processor, has a 4.8-inch 720p display, and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Samsung's custom user interface. The Spotify competitor is offering new users seven days of unlimited premium service to try it out. The full premium plan that offers unlimited streaming and mobile access then costs 9.99 GBP per month. Rdio offers mobile apps for the iOS, Android, and Windows Phone platforms. Twenty percent of Americans bought something online with their phone last year Posted: 03 May 2012 06:01 AM PDT A new survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Placecast claims that 20 percent of adult mobile phone owners in the U.S. made an online purchase with their phone last year. Unsurprisingly, those with smartphones were more likely to make purchases on their phones, though the study claims that interest in using phones for shopping has increased across the board. LG launches the Optimus L7, its first Android 4.0 ICS phone, in Europe Posted: 03 May 2012 05:30 AM PDT LG has announced that the Optimus L7, one of the smartphones in its L-Style line, is launching in Europe. The L7 is the first LG smartphone to launch with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board, and it features a 4.3-inch, WVGA display and a 1GHz processor. LG boasts that the phone is only 8.7mm thick and has a stylish industrial design, though that last point is surely subjective. Windows Phone users in Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Croatia, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine, Venezuela, UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Israel, Thailand, and Vietnam can now browse the Marketplace from their desktop computer's browser.
