RIM offers BlackBerry 10 developers $10,000 in guaranteed earnings Posted: 01 May 2012 12:37 PM PDT As part of its effort to get developers on board with the new BlackBerry 10 platform, RIM has said that for any developer that gets a BlackBerry 10 app certified for the BlackBerry App World, and earns at least $1,000 in the first year from it, RIM will contribute additional earnings to ensure that the developer earns at least $10,000. In short, RIM will ensure that any developer that earns from $1,000 to $9,999 on their own will be paid $10,000. Read the full story here. |
comScore: Samsung, Apple see gains in U.S. while others falter Posted: 01 May 2012 10:50 AM PDT comScore has released the latest edition of its report on the mobile device market in the U.S., and, as expected, Samsung and Apple were the winners, while other manufacturers continued to lose ground. Apple gets more complaints in the UK over 4G iPad claims Posted: 01 May 2012 09:57 AM PDT Apple is already on the radar of advertising watchdogs in Australia and is facing a lawsuit in Sweden concerning its claims of 4G service on the new iPad. Now, it looks like it will see the same scrutiny from regulators in the UK. The BBC reports that the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK has expanded its investigation into whether or not Apple has the right to claim that the iPad has 4G support. Sprint releases software update for Google Galaxy Nexus to fix data issues Posted: 01 May 2012 09:40 AM PDT Sprint may have just launched its version of the Google Galaxy Nexus on April 22, but it is already pushing out a software update for the device to address some bugs. Apparently, a number of Galaxy Nexus owners have been unable to connect to Sprint's 3G network with the device, forcing them to stay on Wi-Fi networks if they wanted to use any services that required data. The new software update supposedly fixes this bug and also addresses a problem with the Galaxy Nexus not displaying the correct network time. Sprint says that an update for the Google Wallet app is also included. Users should get a notification on their handset when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed. RIM demos BlackBerry 10 multitasking, camera, onscreen keyboard Posted: 01 May 2012 07:22 AM PDT At long last, RIM has finally shown off some of the features of its long-awaited BlackBerry 10 operating system, which is due to arrive later this year. Though the Dev Alpha device is not indicative of what a BlackBerry 10 smartphone device will be like, it does offer developers a platform to create phone-specific apps for the BlackBerry 10 platform. Microsoft working to clean up the Windows Phone Marketplace Posted: 01 May 2012 06:18 AM PDT Microsoft has announced a new set of guidelines for Windows Phone developers that are aimed at cleaning up the Windows Phone Marketplace and eliminating the duplicate and copyright infringing apps that have started to infiltrate the app store. The company outlined four areas that it will focus on to police the Marketplace more carefully: trademarks, bulk publishing, keyword use, and content policy enforcement. The company says that it plans to pull apps from the Marketplace that do not follow the provided guidelines, and it hopes that stronger enforcement of its rules will provide a better shopping experience for Windows Phone users. These types of issues are sure to crop up as an app platform grows and expands, but it is good to see that Microsoft is taking an active role in making sure its Marketplace doesn't get overrun with lousy apps. Sony Xperia PLAY for Verizon gets updated, gains continuous autofocus Posted: 01 May 2012 05:31 AM PDT Verizon Wireless has announced a software update for the Sony Xperia PLAY gaming-centric smartphone that adds a few new features and addresses some bugs and performance issues. The most notable of the new features can be found in the camera app, as the right shoulder trigger can now be used as a camera shutter key and there is now continuous autofocus when recording 720p video. The update bumps the software on the phone to Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, and includes a few Verizon apps, such as VZ Navigator and Verizon Video-on-Demand. Xperia PLAY owners should get a notification on their phones when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed. Read the full story here. |
Samsung releases Android 4.0 ICS upgrades in Canada Posted: 01 May 2012 05:06 AM PDT Samsung has announced that it has begun rolling out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for select devices in Canada.
