Apple iPhone 4/4S available from Cricket starting on June 22

Cricket has announced that it will begin selling the Apple iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S starting on June 22, making it the first pre-paid carrier in the U.S. to offer Apple's smartphone. Customers will be able to pick up the 16GB version of the iPhone 4S for $499.99 or the 8GB of the iPhone 4 for $399.99 and pair it with Cricket's $55 per month unlimited plan that offers unlimited calls, text messaging, and data service. Netflix for iPhone, iPad updated with new interface, more

Netflix has released version 2.2 of its app for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, bringing with it a new user interface to all of the devices. The scrub bar for fast forwarding or rewinding while playing video has been retooled for easier control, and controls for audio and subtitles have been made more obvious. Users can now limit Netflix streaming to only when they are on Wi-Fi networks, preventing them from using up limited cellular data. There is also greater control over sharing for those that have connected their Facebook accounts to their Netflix accounts. Netflix 2.2 for iOS is available in the iTunes App Store now.

Samsung Galaxy S III hits Canada on June 20, dual-core Qualcomm S4 and 2GB of RAM in tow

It looks like Canadians may be the first in North America to get their hands on the new Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone, as the company has announced that it will be available from the major Canadian wireless carriers and retailers starting on June 20. While many of the specs of the global edition will carry over to the Canadian edition, the quad-core Samsung Exynos 4 Quad processor inside has been swapped for a dual-core Qualcomm S4 unit clocked at 1.5GHz.

OmniVision announces two more camera sensors for mobile devices

OmniVision is continuing its rollout of new camera sensors for mobile devices today, as it has announced two more that are designed for smartphones and tablets. The OV12830 is a new 12.7 megapixel sensor geared toward high-end devices. It can shoot 1080p HD video at 60 frames per second and take full 12 megapixel still shots at a rate of 24 frames per second. The OV12830 uses 1.1-micron OmniBSI-2 pixel architecture and includes an on-chip RAW scaler. At the other end of the spectrum, the new OVM7675 is a VGA-capable sensor that can be used for video capture in smartphones, tablets, or notebooks. It can shoot VGA (480 x 640 pixel) video at 30 frames per second, and has a low-light sensitivity rating of 1800mV/(Lux-sec). Both sensors are expected to hit volume production in Q4 of this year.

HTC One S for T-Mobile set to receive software update next Monday

Owners of the HTC One S for T-Mobile should be on the lookout for a software update soon, as the carrier says that an update will be available starting on June 4. The update addresses a number of software bugs on the phone, and improves stability in the camera app and with Wi-Fi calling. T-Mobile also says that a signal fluctuation bug has also been addressed. Users should begin to receive notifications for the update on their handsets starting on June 4, and T-Mobile plans to offer the update through July 7.

Evernote Hello, the social app that prompts you to hand your phone to relative strangers so that they may enter their contact information, is now available for the Android platform. Google Maps for Android updated with Local recommendations powered by Zagat

Google has released an update to its Maps for Android app that adds a new Local tab for finding nearby attractions and points of interest. The new Local recommendation service offers reviews from other Google users, as well as ratings and recommendations from Zagat. The app will provide directions from each listing as well. Google says that these new features will also be offered to iOS users in the near future. Google Maps for Android is free and available in the Google Play Store now.

Flipboard for Android may have had an exclusive debut on the new Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone, but it won't stay that way for long. A report from Engadget claims that the popular magazine-style social aggregation app will soon be available for all Android devices, though in a beta form at first.

Wunderlist for Android updated with full tablet interface

Cross-platform to-do list management app Wunderlist received an update on the Android platform today that gives it a complete tablet-optimized interface. While older versions of the app simply stretched the smartphone interface to fit the larger display of tablets, the new version offers a proper two-pane interface and more finger-friendly buttons. All of the other features that users love have carried over, including granular notification control, task sharing, and the all-important cross-platform syncing with PCs and other devices. Wunderlist for Android is free and available in the Google Play Store now. Wunderlist also recently released a version of its app for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet that offers many of the same features.

Sprint offers update on HTC EVO 4G LTE availability

Sprint has provided an update on the availability of the HTC EVO 4G LTE smartphone that was being held up by U.S. Customs earlier this month. While HTC announced last night that the EVO 4G LTE and One X have passed through customs and are clear to enter the country, Sprint is still waiting for stock to arrive to fill out its inventory.

Verizon details upcoming Android 4.0.4 ICS update for Google Galaxy Nexus

Verizon Wireless has posted the changelog and new features that will come with the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Google Galaxy Nexus smartphone to its support website. The update addresses a number of issues, including those found in the email and calendar app, and bugs that cause the phone to freeze and become unresponsive. Verizon also says that the Galaxy Nexus can now "complete calls without experiencing choppy audio, clicking noises and one-way audio noises" and "successfully access Voicemail and other automated systems without error," which seem like important things that needed to be fixed. The carrier has not announced when the update will be made available over-the-air to users, but we imagine that it can't be too far off now.

LG has announced that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates for its Optimus LTE, Optimus LTE Tag, and Optimus Vu smartphones will arrive starting on June 4. All three smartphones will also get LG's updated user interface, while the Vu will gain the ability to run two apps side-by-side on its 4:3 aspect ratio display. Users in Korea will see the updates first, but it is not clear when they will be made available to users worldwide.

Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone widely available in the UK today

The Samsung Galaxy S III, the Korean manufacturer's new flagship smartphone, is now widely available for purchase in the UK. First available in Europe and Samsung's flagship stores yesterday, the Galaxy S III can now be purchased from the major UK carriers and retailers, though buyers can expect to find limited stock and long waits for the high-demand smartphone. Samsung revealed yesterday that the Pebble Blue model won't hit shelves for another 2 to 3 weeks due to a manufacturing issue, so those that want to buy a Galaxy S III now will have to settle for the white model, assuming they even find that one in stock, of course. Of the major carriers, Vodafone is the only one that reports having stock ready for at-home delivery on its website, but it's hard to tell how much stock each store will have.
