T-Mobile to launch HSPA+ handsets in second half of 2010 Posted: 23 Mar 2010 12:55 PM PDT During the T-Mobile press conference at CTIA today, T-Mobile's chief technology officer Cole Brodman said that the carrier would begin to offer HSPA+ handsets during the second half of this year. Verizon Wireless to launch Skype Mobile for smartphones on Thursday Posted: 23 Mar 2010 12:04 PM PDT Today Verizon Wireless announced that it will launch its Skype mobile application on Thursday, March 25th. The service will be available on nine smartphones and will allow users to place Skype calls over Verizon Wireless' circuit-switched network. The application will come pre-installed on new BlackBerry phones and will be available on the Android Market, or online at www.skype.com/go/mobile. Supported phones include the BlackBerry Storm 9530, Storm2 9550, Curve 8330, 8830 World Edition, Tour 9630, and the Motorola DROID, HTC DROID ERIS, and the Motorola DEVOUR. Mozilla bails on Windows Mobile browser plans Posted: 23 Mar 2010 09:25 AM PDT Today Stuart Parmenter, mobile team technical lead with Mozilla Corporation, wrote in a blog post that the company has stopped working on a Windows Mobile browser, citing Microsoft decision to close development to native applications. "While I hope that we do see Microsoft provide us with a way to build Firefox for Windows Phone 7, we will continue to focus on the things that we can control: building a great consumer product on both Android and Maemo," Parmenter said. Opera Mini browser submitted for Apple App Store approval Posted: 23 Mar 2010 06:50 AM PDT Today Opera Software announced that its Opera Mini for iPhone browser was officially submitted to the Apple iPhone App Store. If approved, the browser, typically known for its speed, would be an alternative option to Apple's own browser. Opera Mini compresses data by up to 90 percent for fast page load times. Sprint to expand 4G network with 7 new WiMAX markets Posted: 23 Mar 2010 06:40 AM PDT Today Sprint announced that it plans to stretch its 4G WiMAX network coast-to-coast from Los Angeles to Miami. It said that it will deploy 4G in 7 additional markets in 2010, including Cincinnati, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Miami, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, and St. Louis. Sprint has already said it plans to launch its 4G network in Boston, Denver, Kansas City, Houston, Minneapolis, New York, San Francisco, and Washington D.C., in 2010 and Sprint 4G is already available in 27 other markets.
