Apple to begin selling unlocked iPhones, or contract free?

Rumor has it that Apple may begin selling its iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS models that aren't tied down to AT&T, or "unlocked." Update: the devices may be selling free from an AT&T contract, but may still be locked to AT&T.

Today Sprint announced the Motorola i1, the first iDEN push-to-talk Android smartphone. The device features a 5 megapixel camera, and a Mil Spec 810 rugged rating, among other hardware specs.

T-Mobile UK to offer Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and HTC Desire Android smartphones

Today T-Mobile UK posted two new smartphones to its "coming soon" website, the Sony Ericsson X10 and the HTC Desire. Both are Android powered handsets with custom user interfaces created by each respective manufacturer. The X10 is expected to ship within 10 days while the Desire will ship within a week. Verizon Wireless to launch BilltoMobile service this spring

Today Verizon Wireless said that, in partnership with Danal Inc., it is planning to launch a new BilltoMobile payment service this spring. The service will allow Verizon Wireless customers to purchase online content and digital goods and add them to their monthly Verizon Wireless bill. BilltoMobile will have parental controls and a $25-per-month spending limit.

Sprint to offer the BlackBoard Mobile Learn smartphone application

Today Sprint announced that, through a partnership with BlackBoard Inc., it plans to release the BlackBoard Mobile Learn application to its customers. The software helps faculty and students teach, learn, and collaborate. Teachers can create discussion boards and even post the course syllabus and assignments for viewing anywhere. It will be available on select Sprint smartphones in June 2010 for free.

Sierra Wireless announces Windows 7 Device Stage support

Today Sierra Wireless announced that its AirCard product line now supports Windows 7 Device Stage. Microsoft's Device Stage, sort of like Autoplay, shows all of the features and services a device offers when it's plugged in. Sierra Wireless says Device Stage helps reduce support costs, among other benefits. Sierra Wireless claims that it's the first mobile broadband vendor to support Device Stage.
