AT&T sells a record 9.4 million smartphones, adds 2.5 million subscribers in Q4 2011 Posted: 26 Jan 2012 05:01 AM PST AT&T has just released its Q4 2011 financial earnings report, and despite the issues and costs encountered with its attempt to purchase T-Mobile USA, the carrier still had a banner quarter with record smartphone sales and strong subscriber additions. Nokia moves "well over" 1 million Lumia smartphones in to date; still loses $1.25 billion in Q4 Posted: 26 Jan 2012 04:10 AM PST Nokia released its Q4 2011 and end of year financial reports this morning, and despite claims that it shipped "well over" 1 million Lumia smartphones to date, it wasn't enough for the company to turn a profit, as it was still in the red for 954 million EUR (US$1.25 billion). Apple appeals its ITC victory in HTC patent case Posted: 25 Jan 2012 02:43 PM PST It's not too often that you see the winning side of a lawsuit appeal the decision, but that appears to be the case in the lawsuit Apple filed, and won, against HTC. Apple has filed an appeal for the International Trade Commission's decision last month that determined HTC was in violation of one of the four patents named in Apple's suit. Google Maps for Android updated with 'night mode' for tunnels Posted: 25 Jan 2012 12:52 PM PST Google has released a small update for its Google Maps app for Android smartphones and tablets that offers a new "night mode" feature that activates when traveling through tunnels. Many stand-alone GPS units have similar features that dim the display or change the color scheme to make it easier to read when in darker conditions. AT&T takes issue with Sprint using roaming agreements in place of own network Posted: 25 Jan 2012 07:31 AM PST AT&T has started a war of words with Sprint over the smaller carrier's decision to use roaming agreements for coverage instead of its own network in parts of Oklahoma and Kansas. AT&T says that Sprint is taking unfair advantage of a new policy enacted by the Federal Communications Commission that allows carriers to use roaming agreements in place of their own infrastructure in areas where they own spectrum.
