Today the International Trade Commission issued a preliminary ruling that finds Motorola is not violation of three Apple patents that Apple had hoped to use as the basis for an injunction against a number of Android-powered Motorola smartphones.

T-Mobile clarifies iPhone AWS support statement, claims no knowledge of chipsets used

T-Mobile has issued a statement to clarify remarks made by chief technical officer Neville Ray to CNET that implied that the next Apple iPhone would use a chipset that offered support for the AWS spectrum used in T-Mobile's 3G network. The carrier is now saying that the comments were meant to imply that such chipsets are now available to Apple, should the company choose to make use of them: "Comments made by T-Mobile's CTO, Neville Ray, regarding the evolution of chipsets to include additional bands were misconstrued. Mr. Ray was speaking generally to chipset advancements available to all phone manufacturers. T-Mobile has no knowledge of Apple's product roadmap and our position on the iPhone has not changed."

LightSquared requests NASA probe into GPS industry conflict of interest

LightSquared, the company that hopes to use its satellite spectrum for a 4G LTE terrestrial network, has filed a probe request with the NASA Inspector General asking for an investigation of a National Space-Based Position, Navigation, and Timing Advisory Board member, who also serves on the board of Trimble, a GPS device manufacturer. LightSquared's requires government approval to run its network, which has been accused of causing interference in existing GPS devices.

Telus has announced that the Galaxy Nexus smartphone by Samsung is now available to its customers. Google's latest flagship phone offers the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and all the features you would expect, like a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and a massive 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED touchscreen display. The phone is available for C$649.99 retail. For those who don't want to plunk down the big bucks, Telus also offers a variety of contracts for the Galaxy Nexus with subsidized pricing. Motorola XOOM tablets reportedly getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Reports are coming in that Motorola's XOOM Android tablets are starting to receive Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system update. According to Android Central, an email has been sent out to select XOOM users stating, "Thanks for your patience as we've waited for this project to begin. Because we are dealing with a Google Experience Device (GED) we have less insight to timing than we would usually have. However, I'm happy to announce that we will start the update this evening. Because it was delayed a few days, we will also have additional time to test; we will let it run through the weekend." Let us know if you have seen your ICS update.

Injunction-friendly Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0N Plus tablet announced for Germany

Samsung has announced a slightly redesigned version of its Android-powered Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus tablet. The new Galaxy Tab 7.0N Plus is a response to Apple's injunction and will use a slightly new design for the 7-inch Honeycomb tablet. The updated design features a more prominent edge that wraps around the tablet and is visible from the front, which is exactly the same treatment that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 got when the 10.1N was released. The new 7.0N Plus tablet is expected to go on sale this month for approximately 600 EUR ($770) and will be available in either white or silver.

CNN Windows Phone news and Live Tile app announced

During CES in Las Vegas, CNN announced that it will begin offering a dedicated news app for Windows Phone users. The app will provide global news and video and offer a Live Tile for news updates. The free app is expected to be available next month. CNN also announced that its app will be exclusive to Nokia users for the first 90 days and then become available for all others after.

The site is intended to help Android application programmers create apps that look and work beautifully while making the most of what the Android operating system, especially the new 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich version, has to offer.

Sprint's HTC EVO 3D gets minor security update, improved battery life

Sprint is pushing out a minor software update to users of its HTC EVO 3D smartphone. The new software version, 2.17.651.5, is mainly a security update but is also expected to improve battery life. Notices will get sent out to devices over the air starting January 17. For those that who cannot wait, the update can be initiated directly from the phone's settings menu.
