LG Optimus 3D up for pre-order from Carphone Warehouse

LG's upcoming 3D-capable powerhouse, the Optimus 3D, is due to hit markets at any moment now. If you want to part with your money before it actually hits store shelves, you can head over to Carphone Warehouse, which has announced that it has exclusive launch rights when the Optimus 3D lands in the UK on July 7. The Optimus 3D will be free on plans that cost 35 GBP per month or more.

The promised upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 has finally gotten a release timeframe, as Sony Ericsson has said it will roll-out the update beginning in August. Not all Xperia X10 users will get the update at that time, though, as it will be released to unlocked devices first, and may not come to all carrier-branded models.

HTC EVO 4G gets software update to fix Netflix compatibility

Owners of the HTC EVO 4G were undoubtedly thrilled when the update for Android 2.3 Gingerbread was released, but there were a few nagging issues with the update. Notably, the new version of Android broke compatibility with the Netflix for Android app that was also recently released. Well, it looks like Sprint and HTC have addressed the issue and are now pushing out a maintenance update to correct it. Also packed in with the update is a voicemail notification fix and hearing aid compatibility. Users will get a notification on their phones when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed.

New mobile payments tech uses sound waves instead of NFC

A new technology developed by a company called Narette looks to usurp NFC's dominance in the nascent mobile payments market by using a software-based sound wave transfer protocol. The new technology, called Zoosh, does not require any setup or handshake between devices to transmit data.

Orange UK shows t-shirt that powers phones with sound waves

Orange has devised a new product for charging a mobile phone by harnessing the sound waves and vibrations produced around you. Called Sound Charge, the technology is built into a t-shirt that will be available to concertgoers at the Glastonbury Festival this summer, where there will be plenty of sound waves to test the technology out with.

Microsoft introduces mobile Internet Explorer Test Drive

Microsoft has announced a new tool for web developers called Mobile Test Drive for Internet Explorer that allows them to test their website in the new Internet Explorer 9 for mobile that will debut with the Mango update of Windows Phone 7. The testing environment will let developers see how their website looks and is formatted in the new browser. There are 15 new API samples, like location information and media playback, that developers have access to, with more to come in the future.
