RIM accepting BlackBerry 7 app submissions

RIM has announced to developers that it is now accepting applications for the BlackBerry 7 OS that is due out later this year. The company has put forth a set of guidelines for developers to follow to make sure their apps are compatible and ready for BlackBerry 7. BlackBerry 7 is expected to debut on the Bold 9900/9930 this year.

New HTC, Sony Ericsson smartphones headed to O2 UK this month

O2 UK has teased the arrival of new smartphones this month on its Coming Soon page. The HTC Sensation and the Salsa and ChaCha Facebook phones are all due to arrive in June, as well as the Sony Ericsson Xperia mini pro. The Huawei G7010 and Alcatel OT990 budget-minded smartphones are expected to arrive in June and August respectively.

Motorola DROID X gets official Netflix for Android app

It may not have made it to the list of officially supported devices yet, but Android Central is reporting that the Motorola DROID X now has access to the Netflix for Android app. It is only available to those who have updated their DROID X devices to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, so if you haven't received that update yet, you will have to sit tight for now. Otherwise, head on over to the Android Market to get your streaming Netflix on.

U.S. Senators propose law on mobile data privacy

Two U.S. Senators, Al Franken and Richard Blumenthal, have put forward a new bill in Congress regarding mobile data privacy. The proposed-law is a followup to the letters Senator Franken has written to both Google and Apple requesting mandatory privacy policies.

Here's a look at the spectacular HTC Sensation 4G for T-Mobile USA. This HSPA+ touting smartphone features a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, 768MB of RAM, and a 960 x 540 pixel qHD display. It's 8 megapixel camera can even record 1080p HD video, as well. Overall it's a very solid device that T-Mobile customers should pay attention to.

Motorola DROID 2 Global Gingerbread update arrives today

Well, it looks like Motorola DROID 2 Global owners did not have to wait too long for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update that was reported on Monday, as Verizon Wireless' official support account on Twitter has stated that the update will be rolling out today. Users will benefit from an enhanced user interface from Motorola, as well as the standard benefits of jumping from Android 2.2 Froyo to 2.3 Gingerbread. Note that this update only applies to the DROID 2 Global; it looks like original DROID 2 owners will have to be satisfied with Android 2.2 Froyo for now.

Samsung Exhibit 4G, Gravity Smart hit T-Mobile June 22

T-Mobile took to Twitter today to announce that the Samsung Exhibit 4G and Gravity Smart Android smartphones announced earlier this month will be available on June 22. The Exhibit 4G has a 1GHz processor, a 3.7-inch WVGA screen, and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The Gravity Smart opts for Android 2.2 Froyo and a 3.2-inch display, but it also has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Both phones will be available for under $100 after rebate with a new two-year agreement.

Adobe Flash Player for Android updated with more security fixes

It seems like we are seeing updates for Adobe's Flash Player for Android on a near daily basis, as the company has pushed out yet another update today. Version 10.3.185.24 fixes some security issues that were not addressed in the previous version (10.3.185.23). It is nice to see that Adobe is quickly addressing possible security holes with these incremental updates. The update is available for all phones and tablets running Android 2.2, 2.3, 3.0, or 3.1.

Dolby files lawsuit against RIM for patent infringement

Dolby Laboratories has announced that it has filed a lawsuit against Research In Motion for patent infringement on digital audio technologies used in BlackBerry smartphones and tablets. Dolby has licensing agreements with other device manufacturers, but has not been able to work out one with RIM, which Dolby claims has been using the technology.

Nuance FlexT9 Spanish Android keyboard free through September 14

Nuance has made the Spanish edition of the FlexT9 keyboard for Android smartphones and tablets free through September 14. FlexT9 allows users to input text through four different means, including voice dictation, letter tracing, handwriting recognition, and typing with prediction. The American Spanish edition is free in the Android Market. Other languages are available for $4.99.

Verizon 4G LTE smartphones get mobile hotspot promo extended through July 6

Verizon Wireless has announced that it has extended the free mobile hotspot promotion for the HTC ThunderBolt, Samsung DROID Charge, and LG Revolution through July 6. This is the second time that Verizon has extended the promo, which was expected to end today. All three 4G LTE phones will get a software update on July 6 that will remove the free version of the mobile hotspot. No word on what the mobile hotspot feature will cost after that, but Verizon did say that the $20 per gigabyte plan would not be available on 4G LTE smartphones.

UK owners of Motorola's rough and ready DEFY smartphone rejoice, your phones are finally getting an update to Android 2.2 Froyo after languishing around with 2.1 Eclair for what seems like forever. T-Mobile USA customers have been enjoying the benefits of Froyo since April, but the update has just now crossed the pond to the UK. The update brings all of the usual niceties that come along with Android 2.2, including faster performance, the ability to move apps to the SD card, and Adobe Flash Player support. Users can head over to Motorola's support site to download the update now. Now users can move on to complaining about when the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update will arrive.

HTC puts Gingerbread update for HTC Desire back on the table

HTC elicited quite an uproar from Desire owners when it announced yesterday that it would not be bringing Android 2.3 Gingerbread to the year-old smartphone, due to supposed memory constraints. Well, today is a different day and it looks like HTC has a taken a different stance on the matter now. According to a more recent post on HTC UK's official Facebook page, the company insists it will be releasing an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the Desire at some point. SlashGear claims to have confirmed this with HTC as well. There is no timeline given for the update, though it is nice to see that Desire owners will no longer be left in Froyo-land. We just wonder how they managed to find the missing memory needed for the update in one day.

HTC Sensation 4G available from T-Mobile today, if you can find one

The HTC Sensation 4G is due to hit T-Mobile proper today, after spending a few days in Walmart exclusivity land. The dual-core-powered, Android 2.3 Gingerbread-packing smartphone with a 4.3-inch, qHD display will set you back $199.99 with a new two year agreement. A quick check on T-Mobile's website is showing the Sensation 4G as "temporarily out of stock" though, so you may want to give a call to your local T-Mobile outfit if you want to get your hands on one.
