Adobe AIR for Android bumped up to version 2.7

Adobe has issued an update for its AIR client for Android smartphones and tablets. The update bumps the version number up to 2.7 and adds the ability to move the app off of internal memory and over to an SD card. Developers have also been given access to a new set of APIs, and Adobe has fixed some security and performance issues. The update is available in the Android Market now.

The LG Revolution is the first 4G LTE smartphone from LG to be offered by Verizon Wireless. It features a large, 4.3-inch TFT display, a 1GHz processor, and the ability to pull down data at blazing 4G LTE speeds - up to 9Mbps in our tests! It costs a pretty penny on contract, and has some UI quirks, but it's a pretty slick smartphone nevertheless.

Starbucks app for Android set to arrive tomorrow

Starbucks has announced that the Starbucks for Android app will be available in the Android Market starting tomorrow, June 15. The Starbucks app will allow users to pay for their drinks by displaying a bar code on their phone at participating Starbucks locations.

Google makes it easier to perform complex searches from mobile sites

In addition to the new shortcut buttons for local searches on Google's mobile search site, the company has also made it easier to perform more complex searches from the mobile page. User's can now add parameters to Google's autocomplete feature in order to perform more specific searches.

Adobe updates Photoshop Touch apps for iOS

Adobe has issued an update for the three Photoshop companion apps for the iOS platform that were released last month. The Adobe Eazel app now allows artists to browse their work through an image gallery and save and open artwork within the app itself. Users of the Color Lava app can now capture images with the camera on the iPad 2, and use those images for color inspiration when mixing palates. Finally, the Adobe Nav app will allow users to transfer images directly from the iPad photo library into Photoshop CS5. All three app updates are available in the iTunes App Store now.

HTC Desire will not get official Gingerbread update

Here's some unfortunate news for owners of the original HTC Desire: HTC has said that there will be no official update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the Desire. It is apparently due to the fact that HTC can't squeeze both Android 2.3 Gingerbread and its Sense interface onto the limited memory that the Desire has. This is disappointing news for owners of the just-quite-a-year-old smartphone, though I am sure enterprising users who go through the process of rooting and installing custom software on the Desire will get around its limitations.

LG Optimus Black with Skype headed to Telus this summer

Telus is set to release a special edition of the LG Optimus Black smartphone this summer. The special Skype-out edition will come with a shortcut to download the Skype app for Android, with a cost of C$2 for up to 60 minutes of international Skype calls. Telus customers will be able to purchase more Skype credits directly from their existing Telus accounts. The special Optimus Black will be packaged with a quick-start Skype guide for those who are new to the service. Otherwise, it is the same Optimus Black that we reviewed, with a super bright, 700 nit NOVA display that measures 4 inches in size, Android 2.2 Froyo, and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera. The Skype edition Optimus Black will arrive on Telus this summer at a yet-to-be-announced price.

Apple makes unlocked iPhone available to U.S. customers

Apple has finally started selling unlocked versions of the iPhone 4 in the U.S. Despite being available in the States since 2007, the iPhone was never available in an unlocked version that could be used with any micro-SIM card.

Google Mobile search updated with Places integration

Google has updated its mobile search page for smartphones with new integration with Places. Above the area that usually displays your location are new, finger-friendly buttons to take you directly to nearby restaurants, bars, coffee shops, gas stations, and more. Once you click one of the buttons, you are taken to a slick page that displays a list of nearby establishments along with a map view of the area. The map view will change dynamically as you scroll through the list of Places. The new mobile search page is available now.

Apple claims Samsung's request to see unreleased iPhone, iPad as "copyist"

Apple has responded to Samsung's request to see unreleased versions of Apple's iPhone and iPad in order to see if there are any intellectual property conflicts as "copyist" and without merit. Apple was granted permission for its lawyers to see certain Samsung products that were at the center of the lawsuit between the two companies.

Verizon expands 4G LTE service in California

Verizon Wireless has announced the expansion of 4G LTE coverage in the state of California, including the regions around San Francisco, Fresno, and Sacramento. Starting June 16, residents in Solano and Marin counties outside of San Francisco, as well as towns surrounding Fresno and Sacramento, will be able take advantage of Verizon's high-speed 4G LTE wireless network. Verizon has already announced a number of other markets across the country that will be getting LTE service on June 16 as well.
