| Verizon iPhone 4 sets sales record, pre-orders now closed Posted: 04 Feb 2011 05:21 AM PST Verizon Wireless said that at 8:10pm EST yesterday it stopped the online pre-orders of the iPhone 4, ending the most successful first day of sales in Verizon Wireless' history. In fact, just two hours after the iPhone 4 went on sale it already passed the record for most phones sold on a launch day. "Yesterday's launch set the pace for next week when we open up sales to everyone Across America," Dan Mead, president and CEO of Verizon Wireless said. | Verizon HTC ThunderBolt 4G Android smartphone to debut February 14 Posted: 04 Feb 2011 05:15 AM PST Best Buy's Facebook page for its Grand Rapids South location has seemingly leaked out the launch date for the HTC ThunderBolt, a 4G LTE smartphone that is headed to Verizon Wireless. The ThunderBolt is a Google Android powered smartphone that offers a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display, an 8 megapixel rear facing camera with HD video recording, a 1.3 megapixel forward facing camera, Wi-Fi, and 8GB of internal storage. | Motorola ATRIX 4G pre-orders on AT&T starting February 13 Posted: 03 Feb 2011 10:16 AM PST Motorola just announced that it's new high-end ATRIX Android smartphone will be available for pre-order from AT&T starting on February 13, 2011. The device will be priced at $199.99 with a two-year contract, and Motorola says that it expects the phone to be available from normal retail channels by March 6. AT&T will bundle the ATRIX with the Motorola Laptop Dock for $499.99, and will offer an accessory bundle with the Muldimedia Dock, a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and a remote control for $189.99. The plan will provide 4GB of data for $45 per month. AT&T is also adding 2GB of data to those that use its $20 monthly tethering plan. Overage fees are $10 per gigabyte. | Android Market gets new currency-specific pricing support Posted: 02 Feb 2011 11:12 AM PST In addition to launching its new Android Market web store and demonstrating the upcoming Android in-app purchasing system, Google also announced that it is adding new currency support to the Android Market. This will allow developers to set specific prices for different currencies to avoid the automatically converted prices currently calculated based on exchange rates. This would allow, for example, an app to be priced at $.99 for U.S. customers, .99 GBP for UK customers, and .99 EUR for European customers. | In-app purchases coming to Android Posted: 02 Feb 2011 10:51 AM PST Today Google announced that in-app purchases will be coming to Android applications in the future. This will allow developers to charge for additional content inside their apps, such as extra levels for games. Disney Mobile gave a brief preview of the in-app purchases during a Google event today, which showed how users can purchase new tracks for Tap Tap Revenge4 without leaving the application. Disney said it will launch that app this spring with the launch of in-app billing on Android. The latest version adds support for in-app payments using RIM's BlackBerry Payment service. This will allow apps, such as games, to provide additional content for a fee. | Egyptian internet is back online Posted: 02 Feb 2011 05:15 AM PST Egypt's access to the internet has been restored by the government, Hassan Kabbani, the chief executive of MobiNil in Egypt, told The Wall street Journal. The internet had been virtually inaccessible since January 27, when Telecom Egypt and four of the country's other large carriers went dark. Optimizations and bug fixes are included as well as pinch-to-zoom support for the X10 handheld. Sony Ericsson has also enabled ANT+ support, which allows the smartphones to hook up to short-range devices like athletic heart monitors. | Yahoo Mail blamed for WP7 data leak issues Posted: 01 Feb 2011 08:08 AM PST Some Windows Phone 7 users were reporting higher data costs than usual after there appeared to be an inefficiency in an application running on the OS. Turns out that application was Yahoo Mail. "This inefficiency can result in larger than expected data usage for a very small percentage of users," Microsoft told WindowsPhoneSecrets. While an update is in the works, users can stop the issue manually. Tap Settings > Email & Accounts > Yahoo Mail > Download New Content and toggle the "manually" option.
