The device offers a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and runs on Samsung's own bada smartphone platform. Read the full story here. |
| Samsung S5750 Wave575 bada smartphone announced Posted: 08 Oct 2010 05:10 AM PDT Today Samsung announced the S5750 Wave575, a bada powered smartphone. The Wave575 is, essentially, a re-badged version of the S5250 shown at CommunicAsia, which will now be an EDGE-only phone called the Wave525. The Wave575's feature list includes 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, and a 3.2-inch touchscreen display. The Wave575 will make its debut in Sweden, with other locations planned. | Samsung Vibrant getting OTA GPS fix Posted: 07 Oct 2010 12:46 PM PDT Today Samsung announced via Twitter that it has issued an over-the-air software update for the T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant. The "JI6" software update should fix the amount of time it takes the phone to lock onto a GPS signal and will continue to be pushed out during the coming weeks. Read the full story here. |
| Amazon Android app store in the works Posted: 07 Oct 2010 12:31 PM PDT Amazon has an Android application store of its own in the works, The Wall Street Journal is reporting today. Amazon's store will likely take a 30 percent cut of application sales, leaving the remaining 70 percent to the developers. Apps sold through Amazon's Android store cannot be sold at lower prices elsewhere. The name of Amazon's application store is not yet known, and The Journal did not report when it might open. | Vlingo outs InCar voice-driven service for Android smartphones Posted: 07 Oct 2010 12:03 PM PDT Today Vlingo announced InCar, a new beta service for Android smartphones on Sprint. InCar lets users send and receive text messaging without using their hands. Using Bluetooth connectivity, drivers simply need to speak a "wake up word," and then they'll be able to send text or email messages, search the web, update Facebook and Twitter, open 3rd party applications, and more. Users who point their mobile web browsers to http://m.yahoo.com will notice richer, better organized results. Yahoo says that it also leverages HTML5 technology, too. | Motorola DROID X component shortages reported, sales lower than expected Posted: 07 Oct 2010 09:19 AM PDT Analyst firm MKM Partners published a report through Barron's recently which says that Motorola has hit some component shortages for the DROID X. That, combined with sales of Samsung's Facinate, have resulted in lower sales for Motorola than was expected. The firm also worries that Motorola's FLIPSIDE and FLIPOUT phones could be a flop. | Nokia adds N8 plugin for Apple iSync Posted: 07 Oct 2010 08:48 AM PDT Today Nokia released a new plugin that will allow Apple's iSync software to work with the N8. iSync needs to be running on at least OS X 10.4.9 to work correctly. To download the appropriate plugin for the Nokia N8, head over to Nokia's iSync support page, choose the N8, and download the plugin file. | Helio agrees to settle class action lawsuit, will issue ETF refunds to customers Posted: 07 Oct 2010 08:16 AM PDT Helio has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit. The class action suit was brought to Helio by customers who were charged a flat-rate early termination fee (ETF) when they canceled their contract before the expiration date. Helio has established a $950,000 fund to refund the settlement class members. Those members include current and former Helio customers within the U.S. who, before October 4, 2010, had a Helio contract with an ETF provision. Customers will receive either $10 or a refund for the difference between the ETF and the pro-rated ETF, should one have been in place. Helio will no longer charge flat-rate ETFs, and Helio denies wrongful conduct. Read the full story here. |

The website was announced during September, and allows Sense users to remotely manage their phones.
