RIM to announce Amazon MP3 app for BlackBerry

In tandem with its rumored BlackTab launch next week during a developer conference in San Francisco, RIM could also announce a new Amazon music store application, likely Amazon MP3, for BlackBerry. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that RIM plans to announce the aforementioned application, as well as a BlackBerry mobile advertising platform. We'll keep you up to date next week.

Motorola DROID X Android 2.2 Froyo update rolling out tomorrow

Verizon Wireless said today that it is rolling out the Android 2.2 Froyo update to its Motorola DROID X customers beginning tomorrow. Enhancements include Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for Android, 270 degree screen rotation, VZ Navigator, Google Maps improvements, and more. To check for an update manually, navigate to Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Updates. More information on what's included is on Verizon Wireless' DROID X support website.

Google updates Gmail app for Android

Today Google announced that it has updated its Gmail application. The latest version improves message replies, access to quoted text, and limited support for Priority Inbox. Messages with the Priority Inbox label in the desktop version of Gmail will be labeled "Important." The update is available in the Android market and is not issued as part of an Android system update. The latest version requires Android 2.2 Froyo.

The Wave, a bada-powered smartphone, has surpassed one million in sales in Europe. The Samsung handset debuted in Europe over four months ago and is one of the top sellers in France, Germany, and Austria. Verizon Wireless intros location-based NAVBuilder Inside SDK for developers

Today Verizon Wireless announced NAVBuilder Inside, a software development kit (SDK) which will help developers add location, mapping, and other interactive location based services to their applications. NAVBuilder Inside can be used by Android, BlackBerry, Brew, and Windows Mobile developers for cross-platform development. The SDK provides a MapKit for embedding satellite, regular, and hybrid maps, and LocationKit for location positioning using GPS, Cell ID, or WiFi. South Korea is one of the last countries to offer Apple's smartphone but it now seems the country has welcomed the handset with open arms. Nokia clarifies N8 delay statement

Yesterday Nokia said that it was delaying the shipments of its flagship N8 smartphone until October. However, today Nokia said that it wanted to clarify that statement. A post on Nokia's website said, "We had targeted our online pre-order customers to receive their N8s by the end of September. As it can take time from the beginning of shipment to arriving at their doorstep, in full transparency, we have advised our pre-order customers that they should expect their new Nokia N8 in October."
