| Foursquare 2.0 for iPhone launches Posted: 21 Sep 2010 05:08 AM PDT Foursquare has announced version 2.0 of its iPhone application. The latest version splits up tips and to-dos at check-in locations, which makes it easier to see your to-do list. Foursquare also added tips and to-dos to the map. The social-network launched a new "add to my Foursquare" button which can be embedded into web pages, which allows users to click and save locations to visit. Google Earth 3.1 adds in the ability to explore the world's oceans and underwater terrain on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. | Nokia N8 smartphone delayed until October Posted: 20 Sep 2010 01:07 PM PDT Finnish handset maker Nokia has said today that it is delaying the shipment of its Symbian^3 powered smartphone. According to Engadget, Nokia said, "The amount of pre-orders has exceeded our expectations and we are working hard to deliver the Nokia N8 to the market. In some markets, we had planned to start delivering the Nokia N8s to our pre-order customers by the end of September. To ensure a great user experience, we have decided to hold the shipments for a few weeks to do some final amends." Nokia says it will be worth the wait and expects to ship the phone in October. | Motorola gives Milestone XT720 CPU speed boost, DLNA support Posted: 20 Sep 2010 12:02 PM PDT Today Motorola announced, via its Facebook page, that it is updating the firmware on its Milestone XT720 Android smartphone in the U.K. and Germany. The new software will allow the device's processor to run at its full 720MHz clockspeed, as opposed to the original throttled 550MHz clockspeed. | VLC Media Player for Apple iPad now available Posted: 20 Sep 2010 11:58 AM PDT Today developer Applidium released the VLC Media Player for Apple's iPad, and the company expects to soon offer support for other iOS devices, including the iPhone. The VLC Media Player is a popular open source multimedia player that offers support for "nearly all codecs out there." The app requires iOS 3.2 or later and is free in the iTunes App Store. | Verizon Wireless launches Mobile Recovery Application Posted: 20 Sep 2010 10:46 AM PDT Today Verizon Wireless announced its Mobile Recovery web and phone application. The app is free to customers with Verizon Wireless' Total Equipment Coverage program, and allows users to remotely lock their phone, sound an alarm, or wipe their contacts, should they lose their device. A "locate phone" feature lets users leverage the phone's GPS to provide the location of the device, complete with the address and a map. | Apple iPad print subscriptions could appear next month Posted: 20 Sep 2010 10:43 AM PDT Apple could introduce a new subscription offering, which would allow iPad users to purchase subscriptions to national newspaper and magazines, as soon as next month, according to The Wall Street Journal. Sources noted that Apple may hold off until early next year should it decide to launch a new version of its iPad. | Xerox launches Mobile Print Solution Posted: 20 Sep 2010 08:28 AM PDT Today Xero announced a new service called Xerox Mobile Print Solution. It lets corporate users securely print emails, presentations, and business documents from any smartphone or email capable device. Users just have to email the document to a secure server and a confirmation code is returned. The user can then print their document from any Xerox Extensible Interface Platform printer. The partnership lets T-Mobile customers download free premium content in EA games, although extra in-game content will need to be purchased. T-Mobile customers can currently download a free car upgrade in Need for Speed World, a new skate photo challenge in Skate 3, and new furnishings or a music pack in The Sims 3. Its CEO, Lowell McAdam, will begin serving as the chief operating officer of Verizon Communications on October 1. | Google Docs editing support coming to Android, iPad soon Posted: 20 Sep 2010 05:38 AM PDT Today Google announced that over 3 million businesses have switched over to its services. In celebration, Google also said that Android and iPad users will soon be able to edit Google Docs directly from their devices. "In the next few weeks, co-workers around the world will soon be able to co-edit files simultaneously from an even wider array of devices," Google's Dave Girouard, president of Google Enterprise, said. | Google launches two-step verification security feature Posted: 20 Sep 2010 05:35 AM PDT Today Google announced a new two-step verification process for its business users. The feature helps to add some more robust security for Google Apps Premier, Education, and Government Edition users accessing their Google accounts. In order to login, Google users will need a combination of their password, and a security code that is sent to their mobile phone. Google will roll out this feature to its standard users in the future, also.
