| Ovi Maps v3.06 adds bevy of new features, pinch-to-zoom support Posted: 15 Sep 2010 05:12 AM PDT Nokia has released a new version of its Ovi Maps application on its beta labs website. Ovi Maps v3.06 adds pinch-to-zoom support (on Symbian^3 devices), a new menu and icons, new maps with a public transportation layer, and improved search. Nokia also added "place pages" which provides reviews, descriptions, and pictures of nearby locations. Ovi Maps 3.06 also includes the ability to check-in to locations and share them to Facebook and other locations. To download the app, head over to Nokia's beta labs page. Read the full story here. |

| HP confirms webOS tablet due in early 2011 Posted: 15 Sep 2010 04:23 AM PDT HP has confirmed that it will release a tablet running Palm's webOS operating system during early 2011, according to CNET. Speaking to Matt Marshall of VentureBeat, HP's vice president and chief technology officer confirmed the early 2011 timetable, which has been alluded to in the past. | Nokia grabs former Palm design exec Peter Skillman for MeeGo team Posted: 14 Sep 2010 09:30 AM PDT In early August, we reported that Peter Skillman, Palm's VP of design, had left HP. Today, Engadget noticed that Peter Skillman has updated his LinkedIn profile to show that he's now the vice president for MeeGo user experience and services at Nokia. | Nokia chairman Jorma Ollila to step down in 2012 Posted: 14 Sep 2010 07:25 AM PDT Earlier today a Nokia spokesperson confirmed to MarketWatch that the chairman of Nokia's board of directors, former CEO Jorma Ollila, will step down from his post in 2012. This is the third major announced change to Nokia's executive lineup in less than a week, after CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo was replaced by former Microsoft exec Stephen Elop, and Nokia's head of smartphones, Jansii Vanjoki, announced his planned departure from the company. | Nokia Ovi Store "completely updated" for new smartphones Posted: 14 Sep 2010 06:48 AM PDT Today, during Nokia World in London, Nokia announced three new smartphones, including the C7, E7, and C6-01. Nokia also noted that a "completely updated," version of its application storefront, the Ovi Store, will be available on its Symbian^3 phones. The latest version of the Ovi Store includes a friendlier user interface, and a collections feature that lets users quickly access popular apps and games. | Consumer Reports: iPhone 4 still not recommended Posted: 14 Sep 2010 05:38 AM PDT Consumer Reports recently wrote a new post noting that the consumer group still doesn't recommend the iPhone 4, particularly because Apple will stop giving away free bumpers (which alleviated the problem) beginning on October 1.
