| Google: Android 2.2 Froyo not made for tablets Posted: 10 Sep 2010 11:41 AM PDT Google's director of products for mobile, Hugo Barra, recently made comments stating that Android 2.2 Froyo isn't optimized for tablets. Barra's main concern is that applications won't run correctly on the larger, higher resolution displays. | Apple MobileMe gets push calendar updates on Windows Posted: 10 Sep 2010 06:38 AM PDT Apple has released an update for its MobileMe Control Panel for Windows, which syncs your personal data like contacts and appointments through MobileMe to your Apple iOS devices. The new version, 1.6.2, provides real-time push calendar updates when used with Outlook 2007 or 2010 and the MobileMe Calendar beta. It also adds the ability to connect through a proxy server. | Verizon: Google search landing on Samsung Fascinate in Android 2.2 Froyo update Posted: 10 Sep 2010 06:28 AM PDT Verizon Wireless has said that its Samsung Fascinate Galaxy S Android smartphone, which launched with Microsoft's Bing search in place of Google search, will offer Google search when the phone receives its Android 2.2 Froyo update. Against rumors that Verizon Wireless was replacing Google search with Bing search on all of its Android phones, a Verizon spokesperson told LAPTOP Magazine, Bing will "not be the search engine on all of our phones in the future." | Texting while driving banned in Cincinnati Posted: 10 Sep 2010 06:17 AM PDT Cincinnati, Ohio's City Council members have voted 8-1 to ban texting and accessing the internet while driving within the city. The bill will take effect in 30 days, and drivers could face a $100 fine if caught texting or surfing the net while driving. Drivers can still talk on cell phones, and can also use their phones to enter in GPS information. Cincinnati joins Cleveland, Columbus, and Toledo in the ban. Read the full story here. |
| Analysts: Nearly 59 million WiMAX subscribers in 2015 Posted: 10 Sep 2010 06:11 AM PDT ABI Research has released new projections for the mobile WiMAX market in 2015. The research firm believes that, despite competition from Long Term Evolution (LTE) 4G networks, there will be 59 million Mobile WiMAX subscribers in 2015. The firm also noted that factors impeding WiMAX's growth have not been technical. "Depending on the particular vendor, much of the hardware in a WiMAX base station may be re-usable for TD-LTE," research analyst Xavier Ortiz said. Read the full story here. |
