| T-Mobile U.K. to offer HTC Desire HD Posted: 16 Sep 2010 05:05 AM PDT Today T-Mobile U.K. said that it will begin to offer the newly announced HTC Desire HD beginning in October. Via Twitter, the carrier said that the HTC Desire HD will be free with a £40 ($62) per month 2-year contract. The Desire HD offers a 4.2-inch touchscreen, an 8 megapixel camera, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and more. T-Mobile U.K. wasn't specific on the exact date of the device's availability. | HTC Desire Z and Desire HD pricing revealed Posted: 16 Sep 2010 05:00 AM PDT Today the pricing for both of HTC's newly announced Android smartphones, the Desire HD and the Desire Z, was revealed. The Desire Z popped up on Amazon.com as an unlocked device for £499.99 ($779) and is expected to ship on October 18th. | Apple iPhone owners slower to update firmware than Android users Posted: 15 Sep 2010 11:22 AM PDT A new survey published by Localytics found that iPhone owners were slower to upgrade their firmware to iOS 4 than Android owners were to update to Android 2.2. The firm attributes the speed of Android users to over-the-air firmware updates but doesn't take into consideration some of the early iPhone 3GS complaints with iOS 4. Read the full story here. |
| Skyfire updates Android web browser, surpasses 1 million downloads Posted: 15 Sep 2010 11:09 AM PDT Skyfire, which recently passed its 1 millionth Android download, has updated its Android web browser with a few bug and performance fixes. The latest version offers improved video and audio performance on the HTC Incredible, EVO 4G, and other Froyo capable HTC devices. Skyfire version 2.3.3 fixes a bug that prevented users from downloading files in the browser, and also fixed a bug that prevented some Android 2.2 devices from storing login information. | HTC reveals Media Link wireless DLNA adapter Posted: 15 Sep 2010 10:15 AM PDT During HTC's press conference in London today, the firm introduced a new box that will allow users to stream content from their phone to their TV wirelessly using DLNA technology. The Media Link wireless DLNA adapter from HTC has a mini HDMI port as well as a microUSB port, and otherwise looks like a small metal slate. It connects to your home WiFi network and will then allow you to use your smartphone to control music, photos, and videos, on your HD television. | Sprint 4G WiMAX network spreads to Nashville, Tennessee Posted: 15 Sep 2010 08:10 AM PDT Today Sprint announced that its 4G WiMAX network is now available in Nashville, Tennessee. Sprint's 4G network is now available in over 40 cities across the United States. | HTC Fast Boot allows phones to power-up in 10 seconds Posted: 15 Sep 2010 08:02 AM PDT Today HTC announced a host of new features to its Sense user interface, a new remote management tool for Sense phones, as well as two new Android smart phones, the Desire Z and the Desire HD. HTC also briefly discussed a new feature on those phones called "Fast Boot." HTC says that Fast Boot would allow a phone to power-on in about 10 seconds. According to our own Russell Jefferies, on scene in London, the phone basically sleeps, and only requires a full boot, which takes about a minute, if the battery is pulled. | Sprint launches 4G app challenge Posted: 15 Sep 2010 06:53 AM PDT Today Sprint, in a partnership with Wired, reddit, and Ars Technica, announced a new 4G developer app challenge. Sprint is calling on developers to create apps that take advantage of its 4G network in the following categories: gaming, productivity/business, social networking, entertainment, and video/multimedia/augmented reality services. The winners in each category will receive $50,000, a 1 year PDP membership, 250 hours access to the virtual developer lab, and an HTC EVO 4G with 1 year of service. | HTC updates Sense user interface Posted: 15 Sep 2010 06:21 AM PDT Today HTC updated its Sense user interface with a few new features. HTC Locations provides an online mapping experience which allows instant on-demand maps without download delays, thanks to map caching. Users can also now edit images and video as well as add camera effects to photos. A new integrated online e-reading feature of HTC Sense provides books from the Kobo e-book store. Using the new e-reader, Sense owners can highlight, annotate, search for definitions, and even translate text. HTC didn't specify if it would update its older Sense phones with the new experiences.
