HTC unveils the mid-range Desire 820

HTC may be continuing to struggle, but it is getting increasingly difficult to blame the company's hardware (or lack thereof) for the decline. Last year there simply were not enough HTC devices at various price tiers in key markets, but that's a different story now. The Taiwanese giant launched its latest here at IFA today in the shapely form of the Desire 820, a sequel to the 816 launched earlier this year.

Samsung's Gear S call making smartwatch up close

Samsung's IFA event was dominated by the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge smartphones, but the company had other things to offer too. Chief among those was the Gear S, a smartwatch we had heard about before it was launched in Berlin today. However, while Samsung loves launching a wearable, the Gear S may be the most interesting one the company has made yet.

Sony launches the Xperia Z3 flagship

The Japanese company launched the handset today at its IFA show in Berlin and while there was admittedly nothing new to learn about the device, it is a very good smartphone flagship nonetheless.

Sony raises the curtain on the Xperia Z3 Compact

Sony has launched its new Xperia Z3 Compact today at IFA, a smaller version of the also announced Xperia Z3 flagship. As we expected, the new Compact follows the Z2 version by offering a complete flagship experience in a smaller form factor. Simply put, if you want a device with a smaller screen then this could be the one for you, and it is infinitely better than handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini and HTC One Mini 2.

Sony does it differently with the SmartWatch 3

Sony has been making wearable devices before its rivals (even Samsung) arrived on the scene, but with Android Wear bringing more companies into the game, the Japanese giant has updated its flagship smartwatch. Announced at IFA in Berlin today, the SmartWatch 3 is Sony's latest wearable and is the first the company has made to run Google's Android Wear platform.

Sony unveils SmartBand Talk with calling capabilities

Sony got its IFA underway with its wearables today and the SmartBand Talk got the ball rolling in Berlin. When this device leaked this week I speculated that the Talk meant that this fitness tracker could take calls, but that seemed unlikely. As it turns out the SmartBand Talk can in fact take and make calls thanks to the built in microphone and speaker.

Acer's trio of new Iconia tablets

Acer is not one of the high flying names in the mobile space and has struggled to make a successful transition from its PC heritage. That said, the company tends to make decent hardware that is affordable, and that has been summed up by its new tablet line-up launched at IFA. The company has rolled out three new slates in Berlin, each delivering the typical Acer bang for buck.

Samsung has launched the Galaxy Note 4 here at IFA, introducing the fourth iteration of its phablet flagship to the market. The Korean company started the event by reminding everyone that it was it that started the phablet trend with the original Note and that the S Pen is a standout feature of the niche.

ASUS shows off the MeMO Pad 7 smartphone like tablet

All the buzz around ASUS at IFA this morning may have been because of the ZenWatch wearable, but the Taiwanese company had some other products to show off too. Such as the new MeMO Pad 7, a tablet that really blurs the lines between slate and smartphone, almost looking like a phablet handset as opposed to a full tablet.

Toshiba debuts full Windows tablet for $120

Tablets running full Windows 8.1 have obvious advantages over their iOS and Android counterparts and we have seen them get cheaper and cheaper. No high level company has managed to do what Toshiba has, and that?s release a Win 8.1 slate that costs just $120. The Japanese company has done just that, launching the Encore Mini at IFA.
