Samsung Galaxy Note 4 sells out in Korea, take that Apple

Posted: 23 Sep 2014 03:06 PM PDT

In this writer's humble opinion, Samsung has done well to avoid going toe to toe with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus by not launching its Galaxy Note 4 at the same time. Posted: 23 Sep 2014 02:42 PM PDT

The Moto X is now even more of a sold flagship proposition than it was last year, and the 2014 model could arguably standalone without the Moto Maker feature. However, having the pre-purchase customization tool on board is hardly a bad thing and new devices purchased using Moto Maker are now shipping to consumers.

Samsung launching the Galaxy Note 4 early, but not directly because of the iPhone 6

Posted: 23 Sep 2014 01:30 PM PDT

Samsung is reportedly going to release its Galaxy Note 4 in South Korea on September 26th, which would be earlier than the company had planned. Plenty of reports today are suggesting that is because the company has been frightened into launching sooner by the success of the iPhone 6 Plus phablet device. However, after speaking to my source at Samsung, that is not entirely the case.

AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon have already updated their Moto X variants to the latest version of Android, the 4.4.4 build. However, T-Mobile has so far been absent, but the Uncarrier has today changed that by finally issuing its Moto X with the bump, although the actual update is coming directly from Motorola in this instance.

The last couple of weeks have been dominated by Apple and the iPhone 6, with even devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 taking a back seat. If you thought the Cupertino hype machine would die down now and let others take the spotlight you should think again. Apple of course has another all-conquering product in its arsenal and a new one is due to land in October, so let it all start again.

UPDATE: Apple holding on to Beats Music

Posted: 23 Sep 2014 06:47 AM PDT

During his interview with Charlie Rose last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook explained the reason why he green lit the purchase of Beats Audio for $3 billion earlier in the year. Cook explained that the way Beats Music worked was different to other music streaming services because it made him feel different. It was unique he said, suggesting it in some way spoke to his soul because Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine (Beats co-founders) understand music and artists.

How do you know that LG has a hit flagship on its hands? Well, every device after the G3 has either been a variant or has been heavily styled to look like the admittedly amazing tier one device. Oh, sorry, the Wine Smart flip phone from yesterday is not a G3 variant and does not look like the flagship either. However, the latest LG device is all of those things and it is arriving on AT&T in the United States.

Posted: 23 Sep 2014 05:24 AM PDT

We can't remember if Samsung launched a smartphone last week, but the Korean giant did this week as the new Galaxy Mega 2 has landed. The sequel to last year's massive phablet is much of the same in terms of boasting mid-range specs, although it may find itself priced out in an ever competitive phablet market.
