HTC is working on a standalone action camera Posted: 12 Sep 2014 04:15 AM PDT HTC, the Taiwanese mobile phone giant, has had a tough time of things recently, with profits on the wane despite a number of fine hardware products available from the company. While rivals have been releasing new flagship smartphones and wearable smartwatches, HTC has rolled out a couple of mid-range efforts and has opted out of the smartwatch market because it doesn't think it can differentiate in a flooded product space. It is almost an unwritten rule of mobile tech, but every so often a Samsung court case where the company is accused of patent infringement tends to throw up some juicy information. The latest brand trying to take Samsung to the cleaners is chip maker NVIDIA (the suit is also against Qualcomm) and during the case some information about the Nexus 9 tablet was released. AT&T stopped Amazon/HTC budget device Posted: 11 Sep 2014 01:43 PM PDT Amazon's Fire Phone is the smartphone flop of the year and two months after launch is on a very slippery slope to obscurity. Expect the device to disappear entirely within a few months as consumers have just not warmed to the handset that started life as an expensive flagship. Google has released the latest batch of Android distribution numbers and Android 4.4 and its variations have grown by a whopping 20% from last month and is now comfortably the second most used Android version. Sony ends update support for a number of Xperia smartphones Posted: 11 Sep 2014 09:27 AM PDT Sony has been updating plenty of its handsets of late, with the likes of the Xperia M 2 and Xperia Z series all being treated to the latest versions of Android 4.4. However, if you are rocking the Xperia SP, M, L, or C then you can forget about any future support because the Japanese company has cut those devices loose today. Google Play Store now has a 2-hour app refund window Posted: 11 Sep 2014 08:11 AM PDT Google has been under pressure from several regulatory bodies around the world of late because of its attitude towards refunding apps and protecting consumers from unwanted purchases. The company is not alone as Amazon and Apple have also fallen for some hard criticism and the odd court case, but Google has done something about it today. Skype for Windows Phone now has location sharing Posted: 11 Sep 2014 06:03 AM PDT Skype is one of the jewels in Microsoft's crown at the moment and its Windows Phone version of the service got a nice update today. The Windows Phone Skype app now has location service baked in that allows users to share their position with whoever they are talking with.
