Apple to shut down Beats Music

During his interview with Charlie Rose last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook explained the reason why he green lit the purchase of Beats Audio for $3 billion earlier in the year. Cook explained that the way Beats Music worked was different to other music streaming services because it made him feel different. It was unique he said, suggesting it in some way spoke to his soul because Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine (Beats co-founders) understand music and artists.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha to launch on AT&T and its costly

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is a fine smartphone, a metal clad device that offers some nice specs in an interesting 4.7-inch design. It launched recently but is hugely expensive for what it is, costing more than the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3 in the United Kingdom. The handset will now land in the United States, with AT&T confirming that it will be exclusively carrying the first Samsung smartphone built with premium materials (the Galaxy Note 4 has since followed).

Blackberry may be off most people's radar when it comes to buying a new smartphone, but the Canadian company is about to release one of the most interesting handsets of the year. The Blackberry Passport will land as a unique smartphone in a sea of devices that all offer the same form factor. Whether that uniqueness turns to sales remains to be seen, but the company's CEO has today said how much the handset will cost.

We have seen plenty of false dawns for Samsung and Intel's Tizen platform. Sure, the OS has found its way to most of Samsung's Gear smartwatches, but in terms of landing on smartphones the path has been bumpier. However, the Korean company has not turned its back on Tizen and we may actually be seeing a first ever devices soon.

Sony's Xperia Z3 has the longest battery life of any flagship

When Sony announced the Xperia Z3 a couple of weeks ago at IFA in Berlin, the Japanese company did not have too many wow factor announcements to make. The Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact are just very good handsets and Sony was quick to talk up what is becoming a defining smartphone spec, battery life. According to the company, the Z3 has easily the best battery life of flagship devices, and early tests are proving that to be the case.

Old feature phone design with a splash of smartphone functionality, not a combination you see a lot of these days, but LG has a new flip phone on the market that fits the bill. Yes, the good old flip phone is back and has never really been away because of Samsung, but now LG is joining the party with the Wine Smart.
